Our Analysis for the Premier League DFS event.
There is midweek action in Premier League this week. Tuesday and Wednesday there are a total of five matches in the world’s most popular football league. Naturally, we have a fantasy sports competition ready for it!
With only five matches, we are not expecting the insane action that accompanies regular Premier League rounds in the weekends, but guarantees are set to a very nice €10,000 for the €11 buy-in level, so it is possible for your dream team to win very nice money!
Not singing the blues for our dream team
After Wednesday, Manchester City may very well be at the top of the table. They are only two points behind Liverpool, with one match less played. Playing at home against Cardiff, it looks like an easy victory for the team that have taken 12 straight wins. Most people will pick a couple of City players for their fantasy team, but who will play? It is not clear, but fortunately, we have late swap option in this tournament, which means we can change our team on Wednesday (even though the deadline for entering the competition is on Tuesday). SERGIO AGUERO has been ruled out of the match against Cardiff, because of a minor injury. GABRIEL JESUS (12.6M) is the natural replacement and could be a nice choice for captain. Fernandinho is back after injury, so there will be a spot less in midfield. Typically, Gundogan will move to the bench. RAHEEM STERLING (14.4M) did not play well against Fulham, and is in danger for being replaced on the left wing by LEROY SANE (13.5M). We think it will happen. On the right wing, BERNARDO SILVA (13.2M) was excellent against Fulham, and as we suspect Pep will keep him going. If not, RIYAD MAHREZ (12.3M) is the obvious replacement. Further behind, KEVIN DE BRUYNE (12.8M) and DAVID SILVA (13.2M) are likely candidates to fill up midfield. Both are known for their runs into the penalty box, and de Bruyne additionally for his shots from outside the box, so both could get valuable fantasy points.
Regardless who are in the starting XI, Manchester City will no doubt continue winning. There are indeed lots of reasons to sing something cheerful at the Etihad these days.
What about the motivation?
Watford normally should have an easy win against Fulham, but Watford are playing FA cup semi final on Sunday, which we suspect is ranked as more important than this league game by manager Javi Gracia. Watford is at 10th place in the league, there is no risk of relegation and no hope of getting a Europa League spot. Consequently, there is a big risk of rotation tonight. Deulofeu and Pereyra are amongst those who could be rested. If so, Watford’s strong attack will be weakened and things are looking a bit up for Fulham. Which they desperately need, because they need to win at least 5 out of their 6 last matches in order to stay up. Interestingly, they are not scheduled to meet any of the top 6 clubs for the rest of the season. It still looks more than difficult. For tonight’s game, striker Mitrovic is doubtful as he is struggling with an stomach injury that made him pass on Saturday’s fixture. If you want to make a clear motivation bet, RYAN BABEL (7.3M) has made a good impression at Fulham since he game in January. The ex-Besiktas man could lead the line if Mitrovic is not declared fit, but in any case Babel will be in the starting XI.
The fantasy football clean sheet department
Picking defenders, we lean towards Chelsea and Wolverhampton. Chelsea is the safest one. Although they are not in great form, they should be able to defend themselves from Brighton’s attackers. The problem is, if you want to have some Manchester City attackers, you will probably have to find a cheaper defense than Chelsea. DAVID LUIZ (9.3M) is perhaps the one with most value. If you want to go outside the beaten track, Wolverhampton could be an interesting candidate. They disappointed us by losing 0-2 to Burnley, but we have seen Wolves time and time again do very well against top teams. Add to the fact that Manchester United is not playing great, maybe we could witness an upset in this match. MATT DOHERTY (5.8M) is a must-pick if he is in the line-up. He was rested against Burnley, so we assume he is back now. Definitely the Wolves defender with the biggest offensive potential. Overall defenders from Wolves are very cheap, so if you pick them and they manage to hold a clean sheet, you really have a leg up on the competition.
A FINAL REMINDER: Remember to check the line ups in our tournament lobby! Both on Tuesday night (they are available from 19:45 CET) when you are entering your team(s), but also on Wednesday! Make sure you have Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham players that actually are in the starting XI for your fantasy football team! With late swap, you don’t have to sit there with only 10 live players!
