Guide to 50k Weekly Monster GW 10 – Teams & Players to watch

After a boring and abysmal GW of fantasy football, we are once again back with the 50k Weekly Monster on Fanteam! Don’t be discouraged, football is like that sometimes especially after the international break. Some players are injured, but we do not know that until we see the lineups.  Some other players get rested because there is mid-week action and in some other cases players are benched for no apparent reason at all. But Safety Net has got you covered! With Fanteam´s new feature, you are on the bright side, even if your chosen players don´t start. Read more about Safety Net in our Strategy Guide.

Let’s leave all that low goalscoring and weird clean sheet action behind and get right into this week’s tourney. There are 2 games that are not included this time and those are Southhampton vs Leicester on Friday evening and Man City vs Aston Villa which is the early kick off on Saturday so remember you still have until the regular kick off at 3pm UK time to enter!

Brighton vs Everton

I don’t know how I feel about his match if I am being honest. Everton seems to pick up some pace, keeping CS and scoring goals. Brighton on the other hand are still unbeaten at home and recently beat Spurs 3-0 in a remarkable home game. Any player picked is a risk if you ask me, especially getting someone at the back. If you find yourself trying to find a 3rd cheap striker, I consider Connolly a worthy punt at 7.3 m.

West Ham vs Sheffield United

This might be one of the most interesting matches of the GW. Two well performing teams and a lot of potential for goals and Fantasy Points. Obviously, I am not picking any defence for these teams but only mids and forwards. One my favourites this year is Yarmolenko who has 3 goals so far this season and he is the one that plays at home. Although I expect Sheffield to stay strong defensively for the whole match and play with counter attacks, West Ham will likely break through before halftime. Sheffield has to open and an early goal can make a high scoring match out of this one!

At 5.8m you can bring Lundstram in your team and although he is a defender he plays in the midfield. What that means is that in case he gets a clean sheet then you get 4 points instead of 1 and if he scores you get an extra point. Not bad for a defender at 5.8m!

Watford vs Bournemouth

Even though Watford drew with the Spurs last GW I don’t regard them as a solid team. They are having trouble keeping a clean sheet and scoring goals. Bournemouth on the other hand seems in better shape and even though they concede goals, I back them to keep a clean sheet against Watford.

Cheapest option at the back is Rico at 5.8m which is a huge discount if you check how much defenders are worth in the 50k Weekly Monster. Rico also has 2 assists in his name so don’t be afraid to include this cheap enabler if you want to go big at the front.

For forwards of course there is no greater option than C. Wilson who only blanked twice this year. He scored 5 goals and claimed 3 assists during the season so far and his price at 9.3m is not bad at all!

Burnley vs Chelsea

If you ask me, Burnley will have a hard time scoring against Chelsesa. Don’t think that I am bashing at Burnley, on the contrary I hold them in high regard. However, in fixtures against teams like Chelsea they are going full defence. Tomori will be in my team once again as he didn’t disappoint last week and provided a clean sheet. This week he comes at a price of 8.3m and he will be my only premium defender.

This GW I will move away from the cliché picks of Mount and Abraham and I will move to a more budget choice: Hudson Odoi at 7.3m. The boy has 3 assists so far since his return to the first team and he is one of my favourite players to watch. Also, Abraham and Mount are becoming way to pricey for my taste at 11.8m and 11.4m respectively. Imagine what you can do with that 4.5m if you go for CHO instead of Abraham.

Newcastle vs Wolves

Again, Newcastle is one of the teams I am constantly avoiding in both the 50k Weekly Monster and the season long tournament because why even bother with Newcastle? Sure, maybe at some point someone can arise as a player you can rely on but for the time being let’s not kid ourselves.

The Wolves on the other hand I will keep backing on a consecutive basis. Jimenez repaid my trust last GW with a goal although he had additional goals ruled out. If those were not ruled out by VAR then we would have had a different discussion regarding my team last week. So, I welcome Jimenez back into my team at a price of just 8.3m which I am more than happy to pay.

Still Looking for a budget defender? Look no further! Boly at 5.5m is more than a viable choice against a team like Newcastle although I prefer having defenders that play at home.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

From this match I am going to consider one player and one player only. That’s the second most expensive player of this GW: Aubameyang. He did let me down last week with a blank against Sheffield. But being fair though, who would have thought that the match would go like that. However, new GW, new battle plan. I will give Auba another chance to prove that he can keep up in the race for the golden boot until the end and I will pay the hefty price tag of 13m.

I won’t get any defender from Arsenal as I am not confident in their defence and neither should you.

Games that I am avoiding

Liverpool vs Spurs

2 teams that performed well during the midweek action scoring around 10 goals combined. But:

Liverpool may be tired. That draw with Man Utd last GW came out of the blue and now they are playing a better team on paper. Even if you had to choose, which choice wouldn’t be a mistake? Defense? Nah! Attack? Then who? Salah, Mane or Firmino? All three of them ranging from 12.4m to 13.3m! An expensive choice for a not so easy fixture

Tottenham: I get the feeling that they are only performing in the Champions League because they want to stay in that competition, and they are willing to concede every match in the Premier League until Poch leaves the team. This reminds of what Leicester did to Ranieri couple of years ago. You be the judge of that, but I am not backing Spurs in a match that can potentially be Poch’s last as their manager.

Norwich vs Man Utd

I can´t make a case for anyone in these 2 teams. Norwich seem to be a one hit wonder and they are not scoring any goals while conceding a bunch. Man Utd have one of the worst starts in their history and even if they drew with Liverpool, that doesn’t make a bit of a difference. We know that those matches have a different meaning.

This match can go either way and maybe I can see Rashford being an option this week but as previously mentioned there are better player to pass for the Manu striker.

What do you think? Are we getting that cash this week, or I am fully delusional? Let me know on twitter @ignorantplayer
