In the middle of another big CS:GO tournament the loved tournament organizer blast has something to say. I don’t know how I should evaluate the format in this article as I hate it for the quality of CS:GO but it certainly could be interesting fantasy wise.
All games of the group stage will be played in a best of 1, which means just 1 map decides on who wins and who loses. I can tell you that we will see even more upsets than we see now as a good start on a map already wins you half of the map.
On top of it the fantasy tournaments will change, as BO1 are being played. There are no straight map bonuses as we are used to and there are also no points for net rounds won. This makes every team pickable and just the individual performance of the players will matter, which I actually like.
I will write a preview article everyday from now on, so make sure to check out my https://twitter.com/_thaics or the FanTeam blog everyday.
Other than at the tournaments we already experienced, I won’t be able to analyze every game in the article and explaining why I like which player, as there are 7-8 games a day with each group being covered everyday. I somehow have to short the way I present you my favorite players and I will try to optimize the way during the group stage.
If you are not familiar with fantasy CS:GO yet, go back to the article of the 20.05. and have a read, I explained the basics for CS:GO and fantasy in general there.
The buying for today’s tournament is 10,00€ and there is a guaranteed prize pool of 10,000€, with nearly 1500€ for the first place alone. Next to it there is also a 1€ tournament today.
As the CS:GO tournaments will be played in Pursuit Fashion, which means that cheap players receive more additional points, it would be wise not to disregard cheap players as some of them might give you the edge over other players due to their bonus points.
To make sure you can take advantage of this we focus on the best value plays in these articles.
Today’s matchups are the following:
Looking at the players these are my top picks for today.
Before I begin to write my two sentences to each match, I want to clarify that BO1 are way more random than BO3. There are many more upsets happening and there will be some on Monday for sure. A fact which is leading to this is, that a good start can easily win you the whole match. As the site you are starting on will be decided by a knife round, which is 50/50 in every case, a CT start will make it even easier to get a good start and win the match.
With just one map being played, it is possible for every player to be the highest scoring of the tournament, as everyone it in the level to deliver on just 1 map.
Furthermore it should be better to not stack many players of one team, as it’s not possible that many players of one team perform great on just one map.
It will be interesting to see which tactic will prove the best, but I expect cheaper players and teams with players of different teams to be the best tactic, at least on the first day.
In the following I will write a short assessment on each game and simply write down my 2 favorite picks of the teams. Keep in mind that anyone can win this games so don’t forget to vary the teams you are picking players from.
I based my picks on the theses that they are easily able to top frag the played map, but will also gets some bonus points on top of it, as I am quite sure they will be needed in order to win the tournament.
Vitality vs Ence
The day starts with a match which happened just recently in the Dreamhack Masters, where Vitality won 2:0. The match could very well end up on Nuke or Inferno, and I think Ence won’t be able to beat Vitality there.
Favorite Vitality picks: apex, shox
Favorite Ence picks: sergej, Jamppi
Mousesports vs Dignitas
Though Mousesports has been in a slump recently, under normal circumstances it would be hard to win this match for Dignitas. Karrigan, the in game leader of Mousesports has stated on twitter, that they, as a team, took a break of CSGO for a week and are feeling motivated and strong again.
Everyone that has played CSGO before knows that a break can work wonders.
Favorite Mousesports picks: karrigan, woxic
Favorite Dignitas picks: GeT_RiGhT, f0rest
Astralis vs NIP
This match is a special match, as both teams play with an ingame leader with whom they did not play some days ago. Where Astralis is missing both gla1ve and xyp9x due to health problems, NIP brought hampus instead of Lekr0 into the roster. To call a favorite here would be totally random as both could win this match.
Favorite Astralis picks: Jugi, magisk
Favorite NIP picks: nawwk, rez
Fnatic vs Mad Lions
The last match of the day is one of the more unilateral matches. Fnatic is the better team in general and they have shown that they are capable of playing well online as well. Mad Lions on the other side haven’t looked good at the Dreamhack Masters at all. In theory fnatic should take this, as they are able to pull great comebacks as well.
Favorite Fnatic picks: flusha, krimz
Favorite Mad Lions picks: sjuush, Bubzkji
Furia vs MIBR
After some hours of a break, the brazilian derby will kick of the NA matches. This exact matchup has happened 3 times in the last months. It has been won by Furia everytime, and in a 2:0 fashion everytime as well. Though, some maps were 16:14 results and I feel like it would be classic if MIBR can use the BO1 scenario to their advantage, especially as they had more time to train with trk.
Favorite Furia picks: arT, yuurih
Favorite MIBR picks: kNg, FalleN
Chaos vs Gen.G
On paper this is one of the most obvious matches, as Chaos is one caliber of skill under most of the teams in this tournament. On top of it they made a lineup change just days ago, adding leaf to the roster. I don’t see them having a chance, even though Gen.G isnt in a good form as well.
Exactly my optimism is what fears me the most, as it would be typical for BO1 if Chaos manages to win this one. Nonetheless, I don’t really like any of Gen.G players anyway, as they are really balanced, so I wont play players of this match too often.
Favorite Chaos picks: Xeppaa, leaf
Favorite Gen.G picks: autimatic, s0m
100 Thieves vs Evil Geniuses
Last but not least, the form lacking Evil Geniuses face off against the flying 100 Thieves right now. Their form couldn’t be different and this lead to the fact that 100 Thieves won against EG just days ago. It still went to 3 maps, so it’s anyone’s game in a BO1, but I still see the advantage on 100 Thieves side.
Favorite 100 Thieves picks: Liazz, Jkaem
Favorite Evil Geniuses picks: CeRq, Ethan
