CS:GO Dreamhack Masters 09.06. on FanTeam Preview

The majority of the lower bracket round 1 matches have already happened yesterday, which delivered quite a lot of exciting CSGO. I definitely hope to see the same again today, as we finish the lower bracket round 1 and also see the upper bracket round 1 matches. Winning the upper bracket round 1 matches will bring you a huge step closer to the final, while losing the lower bracket round 1 match means you are out of the tournament. The buying for today’s tournament is 10,00€ and there is a guaranteed prize pool of 10,000€, with 2.000€ for the first place alone. Next to it there is also a 1€ tournament and a 200€ tournament for the highrollers today.

As the CS:GO tournaments will be played in Pursuit Fashion, which means that cheap players receive more additional points,it would be wise not to disregard cheap players as some of them might give you the edge over other players due to their bonus points.

To make sure you can take advantage of this we focus on the best value plays in these articles.

Today’s matchups are the following:

Looking at the players these are my top picks for today. In the following I will explain why I like them the most.

Astralis vs NIP

The Ninjas in Pyjamas are definitely the favorites, coming into this last lower bracket first round match. Both teams have been affected  by lineup changes just recently. While NIP has been focusing on improving, which they have undoubtedly managed to do, Astralis has a first lineup change, a second lineup change a week later, they were contributing in twitter drama about themselves and finally deciding to take a break after the Dreamhack tournament which all in all shows that the new team atmosphere is not good at all, which you can also see on their server and their results. In the whole Blast Premier Showdown tournament they only managed to win against sAw. NIP on the other side managed to qualify for the playoffs with an unbeaten run with under a win against Astralis.

All in all I am impressed how NIP is looking right now, as they have showed a lot of resilience in the playoffs against Vitality as well. For me this is a clear NIP win and I really like their players on FanTeam as well.

Nonetheless, be informed that if a team can change their form around in so less days, it is definitely Astralis, though I think it is highly unlikely at this time, considering all circumstances.

If you are willing to take a huge risk with Astralis, go with either Device or Dupreeh. Both individuals are the only shining lights in the dark times in Astralis. If they somehow manage to win a map both have huge carry potential as the other players are just performing so bad.

On the NIP side the players get more interesting in my opinion. After their new in game leader Hampus has replaced Lekr0 the carry role has shifted from plopski to nawwk. He is still being priced at 10,6 million which is insanely cheap considering his recent performances. Nonetheless, NIP is really balanced and everyone can be the top fragger at the end of a match. Another one that is probable to do it is REZ. The young Swedish player is incredibly skilled and also top fragged when they played against Astralis in the Blast Premier Showdown. If you need a third player for a NIP stack you could risk taking twist, as the AWPer definitely has more impact than before under the new leadership.

G2 vs NaVi

The second game of the day and in other words the first upper bracket game is definitely the game of the day. Two top 5 teams are fighting off against each other and they are both very exciting to watch as well. The odds are seeing NaVi as the slight favorite here. Not only have they won their last head to head 3:0, but they also have the s1mple bonus. It will be interesting to see which team steps um the most, as both teams haven’t been looking incredible in the group stage.

Looking at the players I begin with NaVi, as it is quite easy there. s1mple probably is the best captaincy option on paper, electronic definitely has the second highest potential and for the other three it’s totally random who manages to get the most points, as they offer nearly the same stats.

G2 basically is the opposite, as everyone can be the top fragger at the end of a game. Though, huNter, kennyS and nexa definitely are more often than the others.

I feel like in a high skill game like this, huNter has to step up. He is the most skilled rifler in the team and has to show that as well in order to win. Looking at the recent head to heads he was also at the top of the scoreboard for most of the time. Although he has a tough matchup against s1mple, kennyS has one of the highest multikill and clutch potential in the game, which makes him an incredible fantasy player.

Looking at the prices and the recent performances, AmaNEk is also an interesting pick for the G2 stack, being priced at just 9,1 million.

BIG vs FaZe

The German Counter Strike hope faces off against the super in form FaZe Clan. In theory FaZe are the favorites here, as they probably would be against every team in the world right now. They are looking really good and BIG also isn’t one of the greatest teams.

Though as a BIG supporter I will give you some reasons on why it could be useful to also build a BIG stack here and there.

First of all, the head to head stats do favor BIG. Somehow they always had a good matchup against FaZe, especially if it was at the start of the tournament and they knew that they would play against FaZe, which is the case right now as well. With a huge stuff and two very smart people, in fact Gobb and towb behind them, the preparation will be nearly perfect. I think tactic wise BIG will clearly be better, but that’s just one thing. On an individual level FaZe are clearly better, but I still think BIG are being underestimated on an individual level. SyrsoN can surely keep up with Broky, XANTARES has one of the best raw aims in CSGO and TabseN has been wanted by FaZe in the past as well, so these 3 don’t have to hide at all. It gets tricky looking at tiziaN and k1to. But if we look at FaZe, Bymas is relatively new to the roster and just 16 years old, so you can’t expect to. much from him as well. If tiziaN plays his support role well here, I don’t think the difference including tactic and skill is too much overall. The map pool also isn’t favoring anyone, as none of both teams have an easy win on any map here. Surely FaZe is the right favorite here, but I will still also bring in some BIG picks, as the prices are also insanely cheap.

The average price for the BIG players is 9,3 million, which definitely allows some good picks even if they lose 2:1. Historically XANTARES rarely had his best games against top 5 teams, which makes me like SyrsoN and TabseN a bit more. Still, all three could be the top fragger at the end of the day. If you consider stacking three of BIG you could also throw tiziaN in the mix, as he somehow has his best games against top 5 opponents.

I think on the FaZe side the prices are set quite fair. I would ignore rain and Bymas as they just simply can’t get as much kills as the others get the most, but they also have to play the harder positions. The price/performance ratio definitely favors Broky, as he is priced at 10,2 million only. Though I would give the Captain role to either NiKo or coldzera, as they definitely have the higher ceiling.
