EPL IS BACK ON FANTEAM – 10K & 20K Single Matches Preview

The time has come, the Premier League is back at Fanteam!

Already on Wednesday the first 2 tournaments will start , each with a guaranteed prize pool of 10.000€ (Aston Villa – Sheffield) and 20.000€ (Manchester City – Arsenal) and at the next weekend the huge 100.000€ tournament will follow, where the 1st place will win incredible 20.000€.

But now without further words to my preview of the 2 league matches for the comeback of the Premier League.

First we look briefly at the Pursuit format and then one after the other at the two matches.

Pursuit

The tournament this Weekend will be played in Pursuit format. This means that there will be no budget problems, but at the end of the tournament you will receive bonus points the more budget you have left.

More precisely, there are 0.4 points for every 1 million in budget that is left at the end.

So it can be worthwhile if you attach special importance to value for your money, while building your teams.

Aston Villa – Sheffield United (19.00 CET)

The restart of the Premier League begins this Wednesday at 19.00 (CET) with the match Aston Villa against Sheffield United.

Both teams climbed up together before the season, but since then their paths have been clearly separated.

Sheffield is 7th in the table with 43 points and only 5 points behind a Champions League place, Aston Villa is 19th and penultimate with 25 points. But it is very tight at the bottom, so the 16th, 17th and 18th each have 27 points.

So for both teams it’s already a lot at stake in the first match after the corona break, for Aston Villa it’s probably even more, because relegation would be a disaster, and for Sheffield, playing internationally would be rather more of a gift.

But now let’s take a closer look at the game:

Overview

Sheffield is the light favourite away at Aston Villa with a 43% probability of winning.

However, Aston Villa is still on a par with Sheffield at 28%.

In general the bookies are expecting a low goal match, the probability for at least 3 goals in the match is only 46%.

Accordingly, the to score probabilities are also below average for such a rather balanced match with 75% and 67%.

It’s also hard to name a favourite in terms of value for money, but on the defensive Aston Villa is just ahead for me with an average price of only 5.6M versus 6.9M and still a very solid 25% chance of a clean sheet, but it’s very close.

Players to watch

J. Grealish (Aston Villa / 7.6M) MID

Grealish leads both the internal goal scorers and the assist scorers rankings at Aston Villa. So far he has scored 7 goals and 6 assists in this Premier League season.

If anything is going to work at Aston Villa on the offensive, it will most likely be, because Grealish has a good day, especially with centre-forward Wesley still out.

J. Lundstram (Sheffield United / 7.5M) DEF

Lundstram is the dream for every fantasy sports manager.

On Fanteam, he is listed as a defender, but has been playing in central midfield all season so far and is often involved in offensive actions.

This is underlined by his 4 goals and 3 assists so far in this season. The leader in these two statistics at Sheffield United (Mousset) has only 1 goal and 1 assist more and is a centre forward.

Manchester City – Arsenal (21:15 CET)

In the second match on this Wednesday, the reigning champions face what is arguably the biggest disappointment of the season so far, alongside Tottenham, Arsenal London.

While Manchester City will not be satisfied either, 25 points behind Liverpool, Arsenal is far behind their expectations with 9th place and has not even won half as many points (40) as Liverpool (82).

Accordingly, City is of course the clear favourite here, but let’s take a closer look:

Overview

Manchester City is the clear favourite with 73%, Arsenal has rarely in the season such low probabilities, only 11% to win, only 64% to even score a single goal.

And yet I see options for Arsenal in the offensive at Fanteam and taking into account the Pursuit format.

5.9M compared to 13.1M average price is really extreme, especially where Manchester City has so many players to score a goal or an assist and they also have such a strong bench to change (especially where 5 changes are allowed).

The general Motivation may also be lower at Manchester City than at Arsenal. The championship is long lost and even if City manages to finish top 4 of the league, they will probably not be allowed to play in the Champions League next season.

Players to watch

B. Mendy (Manchester City / 8.6M) DEF

The usual suspects would of course be Aguero, De Bruyne, Sterling and so on, but because Mendy has been injured so often and so long, both this season and in general in his time at Manchester City, he is very cheap with 8.6M.

He will probably be in the starting eleven as left defender and for comparison: right defender K. Walker costs 10.3M.

Even on offense Mendy is always good for scoring an assist and City still has a very solid 36% chance of not conceding a goal.

Player number 2, whom I would like to mention here for City is of course L. Sane (7.8M)

The same goes for him as for Mendy. Because of its extremely long injury break he is very cheap, for comparison: Sterling costs 13.2M, Mahrez 12.8M.

It is not sure if Sane will start, it will be a neck-and-neck race between Sane and Mahrez, but since we see the line-ups in time, we should definitely check if Sane is in the starting eleven.

P. Aubameyang (Arsenal / 6.3M) FOR

I don’t think you can get Aubameyang cheaper than 6.3M on Fanteam. And almost everything will probably go through him in the offensive, if you want to play a successful match against Manchester City.

He leads the internal statistic at Arsenal by a huge margin with 17 goals, ahead of Lacazette with 7 goals.
