Interview with NBA Leaderboard/Rolex winner ‘Affectum’

The NBA Leaderboard challenge on Fanteam was a huge success! In the end, user “Affectum” was able to secure the top spot with a last minute finish. He finished first in the main contest on the last Gameday before the playoffs and overtook 4 opponents with his profit points.

We were lucky to get an interview with the DFS-Crack as he told us about his daily life, his approach to Daily Fantasy Sports in general and what he will do with his brand new Rolex!

FT: Hi Affectum! Thanks for joining the interview. Congratulations on your brand new Rolex! How long have you been playing on Fanteam?

Affectum: Thank you! I’ve been playing on Fanteam since the beginning of 2019. But I really started taking it serious when Covid-19 came. I´ve been into sports betting since a very long time and recently started betting on eSports. With the pandemic came the lockdown and I was in Home Office, watching the CSgo tournaments all day. I was betting on them as usual but I was far from being profitable. Then I saw a banner of Fanteam with an upcoming CSgo contest with €50,000 as prizepool and €10,000 for first place. I thought that I´ll never make that much money with betting and instead of researching which bet to take, I cashed out on my bookie and deposited all on Fanteam. It took me roughly 30 minutes to join multiple teams in the contest. I did alright and won a little bit. Then main thing that converted me from a sports bettor to a DFS player back then was the realization of the fact: when I loose a bet, I loose it all to the bookie. But when I don´t finish Top 10 in a DFS contest, I will probably be break even or only loose a small part of my stake. Instead of the Bookie, I´m playing against other players here. Since then I played almost no sports bets anymore. When I saw the advertisement of the Leaderboard challenge with the Rolex as first prize I decided to go full mode DFS – and I think it´s correct to say that this was a good decision! Funny side-note: I became aware of Daily Fantasy Sports through a German Sports Betting Influencer.

FT: CSgo is still running on Fanteam! What’s your connection to NBA?

Affectum: I mean obviously it’s a great league with a huge entertainment factor. But when I saw the advertisement of the Rolex for the Leaderboard winner on Fanteam for NBA, I was curious about how to approach this huge opportunity. And I can tell you: it’s not rocket science! You can get so much info about NBA DFS online and even most of the content is free. I listened to NBA podcasts, watched some games of the Season before Covid-19. I really just started with NBA and my first results were bad. But I got a grasp of it while the days passed and finally was rewarded with first place. That’s what I loved about your Leaderboard scoring system: everyone has a chance, even if you didn’t crush it from the beginning! And no matter how many teams you enter: profit is profit.

FT: When it comes to DFS in general – what is your favourite category?

Affectum: Of course I have really good feelings for NBA now. But still got the most love for CSgo and obviously Football. As you have the biggest Prizepools here and I’m definitely gonna play the 1 million season game. Just too crazy to be able to win a new house with playing Fantasy Sports. I´m just wondering how I will compete against the FPL guys. But in my opinion they don´t have a better chance than me because I will watch all the Premier League matches as well. I also like NHL and MLB. In the end it all comes down to the same principle and if you know how to draft teams you can win in every sport. If you´re an expert on a topic that is of course even better and can give you an edge.

FT: That’s nice to hear! So what about your DFS winnings? Are you happy about the Rolex?

Affectum: You know this is a really funny story. I´m a passionate motorcycle fan. Unfortunately my bike got stolen some months ago. It was really hard for me and insurance is not paying. With my winnings from the NBA contests I was able to buy a new motorcycle and all of this got topped with a brand new Rolex now. This is just like in a movie you know. The watch looks really beautiful by the way. I can´t put in words how thankful I am that I am able to play here every day.

FT: That is indeed a very nice story. So you will probably keep on playing on Fanteam! So you have anything else to add?

Affectum: Yes I will definitely keep on playing DFS here. Right now I´m not in the position to quit my job on this, but we will see what the future brings 😉 I can only advise everyone, and especially every sports bettor, to try and give DFS a chance. The chances of being profitable are so much higher and in fact it is a lot more fun. I mean, watching a sports event and not only be dependent on the general outcome but on specific player actions makes it so much more fun to watch. I want to pray for those 3 points from Lebron in the last seconds of the match to win 1300€ instead of 1100€! That´s the DFS feeling.
