Hello and welcome to the preview of Fanteams Wednesday Champions League contest! Below will be a few players and suggestions to start your line-ups and hopefully climb your way up those leaderboards.
Starting with a salary of €105m you must select 11 players (no more than three from each team) from the evenings round of matches:
You must also select a Captain (who will score double points) so choose carefully, and also select a Vice Captain who will score double points if your chosen Captain doesn’t play. So with the team building in mind lets get into some players who could feature.
Starting with Neto (10.2m) the Barcelona shot stopper will be deputising for the rested Ter-Stegen and in a match-up against Fevercvaros he should be able to keep that all important clean sheet (4 points) along with seeing a few shots. Others that take my eye are Edouard Mendy (7.0m) and Simon Mignolet (7.8m) both Goalkeepers are in tough matchups but at their respective price points could well reach value.
Manuel Akanji (9.8m) has been performing well of late with three clean sheets in a row for Dortmund and in a home matchup against Lazio. That trend should continue and with the added bonus that Manuel has played 90 minutes in his last three matches with offensive action gives his scoring a total upside. As we look for a little value further down the list Alex Telles (7.1m) looks in a nice spot here. The Manchester United left back is slowly beginning to find his feet after being out injured and replacing the now injured Luke Shaw is fancied to nail down that spot. Yaroslav Ratiskiy (6.0m) has achieved 1 assist so far in his 4 matches so he is not a prolific point producer but at his price and in a match that has goals written all over it Yaroslav is well worth taking a chance with.
This is a position we normally look to spend our salary and I have no hesitation in selecting Jadon Sancho (12.8m). The Dortmund youngster has 2 goals and 1 assist in his 3 champions league matches so far in 20/21 and it is very hard not to see him performing on Wednesday. Double stacking can pay big dividends and with that in mind Thorgan Hazard (12.5m) can certainly benefit from Sancho’s attacking play and with 20 fantasy points in his last 3 games Thorgan is certainly in fine form. Others to consider at lower price points Bruno Fernandes (9.0m) and Ivan Rakitic ( 8.3m) are both fine plays and have scored in excess of 22 fantasy points this champions league season.
Absolutely nothing wrong in selecting Ronaldo (14.5m) and Haaland (13.2m). Both great players, they will be very popular though. Martin Braithwaite (11.3m) is not your usual household name for Barcelona but coming of a 15 point game in his last outing makes perfect sense to me. Barcelona will still be without Messi making Martin your clear goalscorer in that team. If needing some salary relief then Oliver Giroud (7.6m) who scored a goal in his last match could be the answer.
