Weekly Monster 25 Preview – Team of the Week

Hello and welcome to Fanteam’s Team of the Week 25! Here I am drafting a team that I think is capable of winning €7500 in the upcoming Weekly Monster.

The stakes have risen again – the usual €50K prize-pool becomes €75K and I wanna try building something differential. We have to understand what field will be playing, what players people are going to pick the most – and try to go another way. We can call it a ‘high risk-high reward’ strategy – there is no need to play another way if we are playing single-entry game.

What is the Weekly Monster?

The Weekly Monster is a weekly competition held on where players choose a starting XI (no subs) from the teams playing that Gameweek from a budget of 100.0M (depends on the Gameweek), with the objective of scoring as many points as possible. Players score points using the same system as in the €1M season-long game – a scoring system that will feel very familiar to those who have played FPL.

Players are priced in accordance with the match odds for each given fixture. This means that the price list will differ every week, and will often read very differently to the season-long game, as prices are brought up or down depending on the quality of the fixture, and the form of the player.

Team of the Week

I will start with Burnley that hosts West Brom. Despite getting a draw at Man Utd, the numbers are suggesting that WBA is the weakest team in the league – both attacking and defensively. That’s why we will go for Pope (8.5M) + Tailor (7.9M) who is going to be a great differential if Mee (8.0M) can’t play. I will also get Barnes (9.8M) who is finally back on track with 3 full-times in a row.

My second team will be West Ham. Spurs are having big troubles looking more like a relegation-zone fighter right now. Sometimes this is going to end but I think it’s not the case… Cresswell (7.7M) + Soucek (9.2M) + Antonio (9.3M) – great attacking threat against team that gives so many chances to opponents now. We can replace Antonio with some West Ham midfilder – for example Bowen (9.0M) who can play OOP as a striker or Benrahma (8.5M) who has intriguing 2.63 passes led to shot per 90 minutes – potential assists – in his last 4 games.

Aston Villa – Leicester is a game which can go either way. We have enough for Vardy (10.4M) + Tielemans (9.6M) pick which covers us in both areas – player with high ownership and differential.

We are going to Liverpool to get our last 3 guys: one more defensive stack with Alexander-Arnold (10.0M) + Robertson (10.1M) and in the middle we will get Wijnaldum (11.5M) who definitely is a man that can make a big difference in a single game – and that’s what we are looking for on Fanteam. There are thoughts to go with even more risky TAA + Wijnaldum + Henderson (11.1M) or Thiago (11.0M).

Captain: Wijnaldum – if we expect miracle from him, we should go all in and captain him.

Vice-captain: Vardy who can definitely get some goals against Villa.
