With Euro 2020 now just a week or so away, the excitement is mounting here at Fanteam HQ. With a £1 million headline tournament, our new predictor game, plus daily matchups and pursuit games throughout the tournament, there’s something for everyone!
As the first match draws ever closer it’s a great time to see what our panel of experts and fantasy legends think about the upcoming tournament. We asked them three simple questions:
Euro 2020 winner?
Golden Boot winner?
Best Fanteam play in the £1,000,000 tournament?
Let’s see what they fancied………
Ben Dinnery – FanTeam Ambassador
Winner: Belgium
The Red Devils should cruise through the group stage, even with concerns over the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne. Expect Eden Hazard to come to the fore, and in Romelu Lukaku, Belgium have one of Europe’s top marksmen.
Golden Boot: Romelu Lukaku
Winner of the Serie A MVP award, the Inter Milan striker arrives at Euro 2020 in sparkling form. I’m expecting Lukaku to hit the ground running and continue his rich goal scoring streak deep into the tournament.
Best FanTeam play: Harry Kane
England should dominate Group D, scoring plenty of goals in the process. Kane will be pivotal, so watch his points tally grow!
Josh Wooldridge – FanTeam €1 Million Season Long winner
Winners – England
We have to win it eventually RIGHT?!?!
Golden Boot – Romelu Lukaku –
Leads the line for Belgium who I fancy to do really well in the tournament.
Best FanTeam play – Gianluigi Donnarumma
Goalkeepers are really important in this game, and I fancy Italy to keep it tight and Donnarumma to pick up lots of saves.
FF Ninja (Ryan) – FanTeam GW38 Frenzy Winner
Winners – France
France is my favourite to win Euro 2020. They have world-class players from defence to attack, with strong squad depth. 8/11 players from their World Cup winning team are expected to start again. They will be looking to emulate the 1998 & 2000 World Cup and Euros French team, and I would not back against them.
Golden boot – Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku is a different animal this past season with 37 goals + 11 assists in 51 games for club and country. Leading the line for a strong Belgium team in a fairly easy Group B, he is my golden boot favourite.
Best FanTeam play – Alexander Isak (5.5m).
With Zlatan missing out, Isak is expected to lead the line for Sweden. Coming off a 16-goal season with Real Sociedad, the 21-year old could have a break-through tournament. 3 goals in qualifying but 7/10 appearances came from the bench. Worth a punt.
Drafthound – FanTeam Content Extraordinaires
Winners – France
Current World Cup champions France will look to make amends after losing the Euro 2016 final on home turf.
Golden Boot – Lukaku
Belgium’s all-time top scorer, runner up to the golden boot last World cup and he has the ability and physical presence to cause problems against any defence.
Best Fanteam play – Mæhle
The danish right back turned left back has 3 attacking returns in his last 7 games for Denmark and the danes have kept 8 clean sheets in their last 10 games meaning he can return points at both ends of the field.
Chris Tan – FanTeam UCL Champion
Winner – Portugal –
Portugal have a spine of winning mentality (Dias/Bruno/Ronny) and a stellar support cast (Silva/Jota/Felix)
Golden boot – Ronaldo
They’re in the group of death but he will want to pad his stats vs Hungary & in theory should have the most games (if my prediction is right).
Best FanTeam Play – Yilmaz (4.5M)
Turkey are dark horses & could go far. He’s their talisman and an ideal 3rd forward
So there you have it, a wide range of answers from the cream of the Fantasy Football crop. Who’ll be proved right, and give you the best chance of scooping that £200k top prize? It’s not long now until we find out!
