Introduction to the Big Bash

G’day everybody! 🦘

With just over a week until the Big Bash kicks off of FanTeam for the first time, we’ve planned a raft of content to help you nail those teams and strategies. We start today with our hints and tips on all things Big Bash, before providing a team preview per day over the next week. Here’s hoping our info can help you climb the ladder and take home a huge chunk of that €5,000 pot……

Play the fixtures 🤓

With our Big Bash regular season being split into 7 gameweeks, there’s an average of 8 matches each week. As there are only 8 teams competing in Big Bash, and the schedule is relatively scattered, we see teams having 1, 2 or even 3 matches in a gameweek. It’s vital for your Big Bash success that you play the fixtures, transferring in and out players based on just how many opportunities to score they’ll have. Here’s a handy, if basic, graphic to help you navigate the Aussie fixture chaos!

Avoid the internationals 🇦🇺

Australia have the Ashes to play this summer, plus their Australia A side gets a crack at the English too. The Australia A guys are expected to miss the first two weeks of Big Bash action, plus they could potentially be called up to the Ashes squad.

Players away for the Ashes and Australia A games:

Carey, Head, Renshaw, Labuschagne, Neser, Steketee, Swepson, Harris, A Agar, Inglis, Marsh, J Richardson, Abbott, Lyon, Khawaja.

Use safety net ♻️

You can read more about our safety net feature here, which ensures even if you miss some of these early morning games you can still field a full eleven.

The keys to remember in terms of Big Bash and safety net:
– Players have multiple games in a gameweek, safety net will only help if a player misses all their team’s games that week. Therefore it’s highly important to pick certain starters.
– Safety Net will only kick in if there’s an equal or cheaper priced player, of the same position and team, to the one who’s not turned up. So be careful when selecting your teams, if you take e.g. the cheapest bowler on the Brisbane Heat – he has no safety net backup!

Consider the scoring 🏏

In T20 cricket you need big hitters, strike bowlers, or ideally players that can do both……

Consider saving some bullets for late reg 🧠

In our season-long Big Bash game we have one week of late registration. It may be worth holding back a few entries, you have a max of 25 teams per contest, in case you have a dreadful start. Teams entering during Gameweek 1 will start with 95% of the average GW1 score, so you won’t be too far behind the leaders.

Have fun with it 🎉

The Big Bash is a super-colourful tournament and acts as a great accompaniment to the Ashes this Aussie summer. With every game being shown in the UK mornings on Sky TV, it’s a great chance to start the day watching your team battle it out over breakfast.

And if nothing else we can all be jealous of the scorching weather, and people dressed as Santa whilst BBQing.

We’ll be back tomorrow with our first team preview…..
