Over the next week we’re doing brief team previews ready for our Big Bash debut on 5th December. Hopefully, our thoughts will help you craft those Big Bash teams that top the leaderboard come the end of January!
Number 3 – Hobart Hurricanes
2020/21 Performance
6th place, won 7 and lost 7
Internationationals to avoid
Harry Brook is with England Lions.
Scott Boland is with Australia A.
Overseas stars
Harry Brook – up and coming Yorkshireman who’s shined in t20 during his brief career so far. An explosive batsman, he may also be called upon to bowl a little ‘military medium’. A lovely price at 8m for a potentially out of position all rounder.
Sandeep Lamichhane – Nepalese leggie who despite being only 22 is in his 4th Big Bash squad! Favoured by pundits to repeat heroics of last year when he picked up a wicket per match at a tidy 7.55 economy rate.
Ones to watch
Scott Boland and Nathan Ellis both cracked the top 10 for wickets in last season’s Big Bash. Neither are household names, but at 8.5m they’re dependable bowling options.
D’arcy Short is the real star of the Hurricane show, and you can expect all-round points here. 345 runs and 8 wickets in last season’s Big Bash. Pricey but like L’oreal – he’s worth it.
Matthew Wade didn’t do much in the T20 World Cup, but when called upon in the semi-final he took Shaheen Afridi to pieces. An always dangerous batsman, he’s potentially a rogue shout for your Big Bash teams.
Predicted first game xi
D’Arcy Short
Matthew Wade
Ben McDermott
Peter Handscomb

Mitch Owen/Josh Kann
Joel Paris (pending fitness)

Number 4 – Adelaide Strikers
2020/21 Performance
5th place, won 7 and lost 7
Internationationals to avoid
Travis Head makse the Ashes squad, and is set to be away for much of the Big Bash. Alex Carey and Matt Renshaw will miss at least the first two games.
Overseas stars
Rashid Khan – absolute superstar of t20 cricket. A deadly spinner and dangerous big-hitting batsman. Currently ranked bowler number 5 in T20 internationals, you could go without him, but do you dare?
George Garton – The English left arm paceman ticks a lot of boxes here. Recently starred in the T20 Blast, The Hundred, IPL, and even has some experience in Australian conditions. A little handy with the bat too, very nicely priced all rounder at just 8.5m.
Ones to watch
A seriously strong bowling attack for the Strikers this term. Agar, Ahmed, Khan, Siddle and Weatherald all made the top 20 wicket taker list in last season’s Big Bash somehow! Take your pick, although with only 1m separating them Rashid Khan is clearly the standout star.
Matt Short stands out in the batsman category at just 8m, but the Adelaide strength is in the bowlers this time around.
Predicted first game xi
Jake Weatherald
Matthew Short
Harry Nielsen
Jon Wells
Ryan Gibson
George Garton
Rashid Khan
Peter Siddle
Wes Agar
Daniel Worrall
Fawad Ahmed
