UFC 272

IT’S TIME, ladies and gentlemen! The UFC is back on PPV! UFC 272 comes from the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas on Saturday March 5. The card is headlined by Colby Covington VS Jorge Masvidal in a welterweight grudge match!

The UFC really is the ultimate fighting experience, where favorites can be knocked out at any moment. We have seen it time and time again with greats such as Michael Bisping, Anderson Silva and Conor McGregor all staring up at those lights and wondering what the hell just happened.

The UFC is everything it’s advertised to be – trash talking, bright lights, bright stars and violence with great technique mixed in. All making it the greatest combat sport in the world, in my opinion – and the perfect sport to play DFS in.

Why not enjoy all the spectacular moments tonight by entering a few DFS lineups and experience the thrills of your fighter getting a first round KO.

We have One contest this week with a £2.52 buy in and a prizepool of £840.

If you have played FanTeam UFC before then you will notice a difference this week, as we move over to a universal 6 format. The concept now is much simpler for both newcomers and experienced players – simply pick 6 fighters within a £100M budget.

Scoring, however, does remain the same and is again very simple. 1 point for a strike, 2 for a takedown, 5 for a reversal. A fighter that wins within the first round also gets 100 points compared to a fighter winning in round 5 who gets just 30 points.

This, however, might even itself out over the fight with the fighter winning in round 5 getting a ton of strikes and takedowns, so there’s many ways to approach this.

I don’t even hate 2 fighters from the same fight if it was to go all the way, as there’s potential for points-galore!

The highest priced fighters on tonight’s card are Colby Covington 19.9M, Umar Nurmagomedov 18.9M and Marina Rodriguez 18.1M.

If you are playing a single entry or multi-entering, then you will almost certainly need to have exposure to these guys. It’s extremely difficult to play all of those guys in one lineup, so you will need to find a balance.

Here a few of my Core Plays for Saturday’s  UFC 272 slate on FanTeam:

Serghei Spivac 17.5M

The battle of Two heavyweights at UFC 272 as Serghei Spivac takes on former NFL star Greg Hardy! Both men are coming off first round knockout losses but it’s Hardy’s who was the more brutal.

Spivac is a well rounded fighter which is rare at heavyweight and he was on 3 fight win streak before his knockout loss to Tom Aspinall last time out. Spivac has struggled against big power punchers in the past but I expect Hardy to be weary this time out after coming off that brutal knockout last time out.

I fully expect Spivac to control the time in this fight with takedowns and grapples. If he has success with the takedowns then he will just wear Hardy down and I’d fully expect him to finish Hardy in rounds 2 or 3.

Jalin Turner – 16.7M

Jalin Turner takes on Jamie Mullarkey in a highly anticipated lightweight bout that was originally scheduled for February 2020 but Mullarkey withdrew due to injury.

Turner is on a hot streak currently riding a 3 fight win streak and an impressive submission first round stoppage last time out. Mullarkey on the other hand has won 2 and lost a via decision to Fares Ziam.

Turner is a knockout specialist with 8 of the 11 UFC wins coming via knockout. Turner also has a height advantage in this fight and will have the advantage if this fight stays upright. It’s a great fight to target for fantasy and I will certainly have exposure to both fighters, but it’s Turner I prefer via knockout.

Edson Barboza – 15.3M

Edson Barboza takes on Bryce Mitchell in a featherweight dust up. A fight that is largely considered to be grappler vs striker.

Barboza is the betting underdog in this fight but I’m not worried as Mitchell is coming into this after a year and half lay off! Barboza will be Mitchell’s toughest test to date, a savvy veteran with lethal hands and great takedown defense.

With the clear striking advantage I fully expect Barboza to come out on top here and punish Mitchell, who tends to have reckless entries when closing the distance. Barboza by knockout is my prediction.

Although I will be entering multi lineups in Saturday’s  games, this is one of my lineups for UFC 272 on FanTeam.

As you can see, the lineup is built around my core player selections above, including one of those higher price fighters.

I hope this article has given you plenty of food for thought – especially for those of you that know very little about UFC, but are playing in Saturday’s Main Event contest.

UFC 272  cash contests  start at 21:00GMT/22:00CET, so be sure to enter your lineups early to avoid missing out.
