Welcome to a quick turnaround week! The Players Championship went all the way to a Monday finish with Cam Smith eventually coming out on top. With the late finish in mind I’m expecting a few withdrawals this week so make sure you keep an eye on @PGATOURComms

The PGA tour keeps on rolling as we head down to Tampa Florida for the Valspar championship. An underrated stop on the tour that attracts some of the best golfers, including Mr Tiger Woods back in 2018.

Some of the biggest and best names in golf return to the Copperhead course resort this week for the Valspar championship. Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Colin Morikawa are some of the highlights as 20 of the world’s top 50 golfers tee it up.

Sam Burns will be hoping to defend his maiden PGA tour title this week in a field that will feature five of the top-10 players in the world. Additionally 7 of the past tournament champions are in the field, so Burns’ task will be easier said than done.

World number 3 Victor Hovland committed to this tournament just before last week’s Players Championship so I will be interested to see if he honors that after making the cut and finishing late up Monday evening. If he does this course should set up perfectly for him and his iron game.

The tournament field this week includes 140 players with one sponsor exemption to be determined on Monday and will begin on March 17th and run through to March 20.

Copperhead Course

Yardage: 7,340

Par: 71

Greens: Bermuda

This is not your normal style Florida course, just due to the characteristics of the Tampa Bay area. The tree lined-lined fairways and elevation changes look more like golf courses you’ll find in the Georgia area.

The course itself offers a very easy start for the golfers with a Par 5 first hole that most of these guys will reach in 2 and give themselves eagle and birdie chances. They’ll be needing that eagle/birdie start as this golf course offers up a 3 hole stretch from hole 16-18 known as the SNAKE PIT! 3 of the hardest holes on any golf course, which feature deep bunkers, a dog leg par 4 and a par 3 with a deep green that features a false front that will reject any lousy tee shots.

With 74 bunkers and eight water hazards this course will provide trouble at every turn for the golfers this week.

Average cut line around here is 1 over par.

Strokes Gained Approach

Scrambling (strokes gained around the green)

Bogey Avoidance

Strokes gained on approach are key around here this week with it being 14 more times more influential than strokes gained off the tee, a staggering number. The Valspar has some of the smallest greens on tour so approach play is key.

Scrambling has shown to be pretty important around here, with the last 6 winners inside the top 20 in strokes gained around the green category.

With the weather at last week’s Player championship some game theory in our DFS lineups could come into play. I will certainly target some of the early starters as they could get the softer conditions, with the greens drying out through the day.

When picking lineups it could be wise to sprinkle in some picks who are likely to be less owned.

The Valspar Championship is an underrated stop on the PGA tour and the perfect warm up for golfers as we edge closer to golf’s first major of the year, The Masters. This week’s contest has a €12 buy-in with a €6,000 prize pool.

€12 entry – THE VALSPAR Championship Main Event – €6,000 GTD – 17th – 20th of March

€2 entry – THE VALSPAR Championship Mini-Main Event – €1,500 GTD – 17th – 20th of March

€2 entry – THE VALSPAR Championship Round 2 – €750 GTD – 18th of March

€2 entry – THE VALSPAR Championship Round 3 – €750 GTD – 19th of March

€2 entry – THE VALSPAR Championship Round 4 – €750 GTD – 20th of March

We have something special brewing for the Masters, which is only Three short weeks away! It will start at this week’s Valspar Championship, so keep an eye out in the game lobby. Yo don’t want to miss this!
