Round 4 of the MLS season is upon us and another weekend of jam packed soccer action to get our teeth stuck into. Gameweek 3 was an interesting one with a few shock results along with some rotation in some teams leaving an interesting look into how to attack the MLS going forward from a season long point of view.

This week’s contest is a Monster slate where all MLS games are involved so a huge pool of talent to pick from and i’m here to hopefully help you with who to target team wise and what players i fancy followed by one of my team reveals

The full round contest runs through 19-21 March.

The full round game has 1 contest this week with an entry fee of €5 and a prizepool of €1000.

The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 105.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, in the event that your captain does not play, your vice captain will then score 2x points.

You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.

No bench required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.

Standard scoring applies to this contest.

With the rules covered, let’s take a look at some of my picks from each game  shall we?

Cincinnati Vs Inter Miami (Saturday-17.00GMT)

This is one of the games that catches my eye for the monster slate for all the wrong reasons but all the right reasons too. Both teams in 3 games have conceded 7 goals each however both conceded 5 vs Austin, Cincinnati have only scored twice and Miami once. So I am expecting and hoping for a goal fest due to both being so bad defensively.

These teams have met 4 times with Inter Miami coming out on top in all 4 contests. 3 of those games have had 3+ goals in them. A few players to consider for this would be Luciano Acosta ( 10.2M ) who assisted one of Cincinnati’s two goals which were both score by Brandon Vazquez ( 9.9M )Gonzalo Higuain ( 8.6M ) we know what he can do when he gets the chance but has yet to score so far this season, Leonardo Campana ( 8.1M ) is the man who has bagged that sole Miami goal so far this season.

New York City Vs Philadelphia Union  (Saturday-17.00GMT)

An intriguing game with both teams expecting to challenge this year for the MLS cup. New York have been a little distracted by the CONCACAF Cup and had a game midweek so it’s possible for some rotation for this game. Philadelphia is currently unbeaten this season with 2 wins and a draw. Games between the two are usually close contests and I’d expect the same again this week.

I do expect both teams to score so my focus would be on the attacking players. Santiago Rodriguez ( 10.6M ) was rested in the week and after grabbing a goal last weekend is someone who could feature in your teams this week. Talles Magno ( 11.3M ) has started the season well with a goal and an assist. For the Union Daniel Gazdag ( 6M ) 2 goals in the first 3 games is a great price, Cory Burke ( 6.1M ) has 2 goals in both his starts this season and could offer a cheaper option upfront

Toronto FC vs DC United (Saturday 19.00GMT)

A game that probably looking at the teams you wouldn’t think would catch the eye this weekend, however in their last 4 games there has been a total of 20 goals between them. Toronto have got off to a poor start this season, whilst DC had started with 2 wins but were surprised by Chicago Fire last week in a 2-0 defeat. Toronto has yet to keep a clean sheet this season and I can’t see them doing so this weekend either.

For Toronto they have Jesus Jimenez ( 10.5M ) who has 2 goals and an assist in the first 3 games of the season and is the key man for Toronto if they want their first win. Jonathan Osorio ( 9.5M ) is a key player in this Toronto team also and is someone who is worth thinking about when building your teams. DC United have 2 strikers who they seem to rotate

Michael Estrada ( 8.7M ) and Ola Kamara ( 9.2M ) who have 3 goals between them but havent started a game together so far.

LA Galaxy Vs Orlando City (Saturday 19.30GMT)

Galaxy are a team that always expect to do well every season in the MLS and on paper this season should mount a huge bid for that MLS Cup. Galaxy have in the 3 games got a very good attacking and defensive record and with Orlando being a bit hit and miss i am expecting the Galaxy to win this game. These two haven’t met since 2019 but when they do meet the home team usually are victorious with 4 out of the 5 meetings going to the home team.

Javier Hernandez ( 11.3M ) and Douglas Costa ( 10.9M ) were both on the score sheet last weekend and if the Galaxy want to win this game both will be integral to this. Orlando will be hoping to use their creative midfielders Mauricio Pereyra ( 6.8M ) and Facundo Torres ( 6.7M ) to supply the front line if they are to get a result here.

Atlanta Utd Vs CF Montreal (Saturday 20.00GMT)

Montreal played in the CONCACAF Cup midweek in which they were knocked out which on top of their poor start to the season screams that Atlanta should win this easily. Atlanta have not lost to Montreal at home in their MLS history but games between the two are usually close.

Star striker Josef Martinez ( 12.6M ) got off the mark last week vs Charlotte albeit from the penalty spot whilst Atlanta have a few injuries in the squad i expect him to bag again this weekend. If Montreal are to get anything from this game they will need Kei Kamara ( 7.1M ) to fire them to victory.

Chicago Fire Vs Sporting Kansas City (Saturday 22.00GMT)

Chicago have had a solid but unspectacular start to the season with 3 clean sheets in 3 games but have only managed to score twice which was in their victory last week away at DC United. Chicago are good at home whilst Sporting Kansas City aren’t very good away from home. However Sporting Kansas City have not lost to Chicago since 2016. So an intriguing contest in prospect this one.

My focus here for Chicago is the defense, Gabriel Slonina ( 8.1M ) is the main between the sticks for Chicago and i’m sure he will be difficult to beat again this weekend, there is a few other options in this defense to have but Rafael Czichos ( 6.9M ) is the cheapest of the bunch. Sporting Kansas City star man Daniel Salloi ( 8.1M ) missed last weekend’s game so could be a risk to play him, but if he’s available then he is the key man for Sporting.

Charlotte Vs New England Revolution (Saturday 23.00GMT)

Charlotte with their second ever MLS game at home with a huge crowd again expected to come up against the best team from last season. However New England will not be in the mood after throwing away a 3 goal advantage in the CONCACAF in midweek. So I am expecting New England to want to bounce back from this and with Charlotte not having a good start to their MLS debut season I do expect New England to scrape a victory here.

They will need Carlos Gil ( 11M ) and Adam Buksa ( 11.2M ) to be starting and being in the mood. I can’t see Charlotte doing much here however Kristijan Kahlina ( 6.1M ) could be in for a busy day so might be a long shot for your goalkeeper this weekend.

Minnesota Vs San Jose Earthquakes (Sunday 00.00GMT)

Minnesota have got off to a very good start despite only having 5 points, 2 draws vs Philadelphia and Nashville and an away win last week vs New York Red Bulls suggests Minnesota are a team to keep an eye on. Whilst San Jose have not started the season well at all, despite a great comeback draw vs Columbus when they were down to 10 men after 33 minutes. History suggests this will be a goal fest with 8 out of the last 10 games between the two having both teams score, and only one clean sheet between the two so far this season.

So my focus here will be on the attacking talent for both teams. Hassani Dotson ( 10.6M ) has an assist and a goal so far this season with Luis Amarilla ( 11.9 M ) also getting on the scoresheet in the opening 3 games. I will be looking to get both of these in my line up with San Jose leaking goals currently. For San Jose despite only having one point have scored 4 goals in 3, with Cristian Espinoza ( 6.8M ) bagging one of those from the penalty spot whilst also grabbing an assist, Jan Gregus ( 5.9M ) has also got 2 assists in the opening 3 games, so both of these could be good cheap options.

FC Dallas vs Portland Timbers (Sunday 00.30GMT)

Both teams here have got off to decent starts this season and have both had tricky games to contend with ( Both have played New England ) So this game for me will tell which one is a genuine contender for the season. Games between the two are usually close so not expecting lots to happen here to be honest. However with a lot of MLS games the home side usually means a positive result so im siding slightly towards dallas here.

Players to look at Paul Arriola ( 10.2M ) has an assist already this season and plays in a front 3, on the other side you have Jader Obrian ( 9.7M ) has a goal to his name for the season. Portland players to consider Yimmi Chara ( 8.1M ) 2 goals and 1 assist to start the season is an impressive tally and worth looking at, my other pick is Aljaz Ivacic ( 6.7M ) Portland have had 56 shots against so far this season with Ivacic making 10 saves, so could be an option for your goalkeeper this week.

Houston Dynamo vs Colorado Rapids (Sunday 00.30GMT)

Despite being thumped in the season opener Colorado have had two impressive victories since both without conceding. Houston, who were tipped to be one of the poorer sides this season havent started terribly but haven’t inspired me into thinking they will do much this season yet. However Houston haven’t lost at home this season and Colorado have not won away. So another intriguing watch to see who comes out on top here. Both attacks rank 27th and 25th on my stats so I’m not expecting much here though.

Both Houston’s goals have come from Darwin Quintero ( 8.6M ) so if they are going to get a result I expect him to be on the score sheet. Colorado will need Diego Rubio ( 8.8M ) who also has 2 goals and an assist to be on fire if they want to take something from this game.

Real Salt Lake vs Nashville SC (Sunday 1.30GMT)

Real Salt Lake have had a great start with 2 wins over Seattle Sounders and New England Revolution following a season opening 0-0 draw away to houston. Nashville have yet to play at home whilst their new stadium is being finished and also have a victory over the Seattle Sounders followed by a draw and a loss. Looking at the stats this game looks to be a tight affair and last season these two played out a goalless draw. Real Salt Lake will be on a high after coming from 2 down to beat New England and I’m sure they will want to continue with that.

Bobby Wood ( 7.9M ) has a goal and an assist this season and leads the line for Real Salt lake. Nashville ranks 26th in my attacking stats so Zac MacMath ( 6.4M ) has 2 clean sheets with 9 saves in 3 games so another option for a goalkeeper this week. Nashville has a midfield 3 that all bring something to the team in terms of goals or assists but my pick for this week based on cost would be Anibal Godoy ( 5.9M ) he does have a goal to his name which was in gameweek 1.

New York Red Bulls vs Columbus Crew (Sunday 18.30GMT)

This game for me has the two best attacking teams stats wise so far this season going head to head in potentially the clash of the slate. Head to heads between the two also suggests a good game. New York will be licking their wounds after last week’s defeat to Minnesota and will be looking to get back on track.

Lewis Morgan ( 11.7M ) bagged a hat trick vs Toronto in gameweek 2, Morgan also has an assist to his name. Patryk Klimala ( 11.3M ) is the main man for New York, he only has the one goal so far this season but does have 3 assists to add to his tally. Columbus has their star men, Zela as he is being called in the fan team MLS world is a steal this week at 8.5M, 4 goals in 3 and an assist makes him almost a lock to have in your teams at the price. His teammate Derrick Etienne ( 8.1M ) has 2 goals and 3 assists also. If both continue their form then both make great value for your teams this week.

Austin FC Vs Seattle Sounders (Sunday 20.30GMT)

With Seattle focusing on the CONCACAF cup they have got off to a poor start in the league, along with some injuries to key players the team tipped to win it all have caused issues with some season long teams. Austin got off to a great start with two wins scoring 5 in both against Cincinnati and Inter Miami, but were then brought down to earth with a 1-0 defeat vs Portland. Form suggests Austin should get a good result here and with Seattle playing midweek should be the fresher team. Last two head to heads between them have provided just 1 goal, so im expecting a tight affair here also.

Austin do have Sebastian Driussi ( 9.8M ) who has 3 goals and an assist to his name as well as his midfield partners Diego Fagundez ( 9.5M ) and Cecilio Dominguez ( 9.4M ) who have 3 assists and 2 goals between them. Seattle on the other hand still should be without Nicolas Lodeiro and Raul Ruidiaz which puts the emphasis on Albert Rusnak ( 8.1M ) and Fredy Montero ( 8.2M ) to deliver the goods.

Los Angeles FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps (Monday 2.00GMT)

Last game of the slate and if you are patient enough you may have a few players in this game. The top of the western conference vs bottom of the western conference currently. The best defense in the league based on my stats vs the worst attack in the league based on stats. Vancouver also has the second worst defense based on the stats I use. LAFC have 6 goals so far this season and I expect them to score a couple here. However LAFC have not beaten Vancouver in the last 4 meetings drawing 2 and losing the other 2. Take from that what you will. Vancouver however have lost both away games this season with one of those being vs Houston.

Looking at the players for the slate LAFC players have been priced to suggest this will be what the stats suggest and an easy win for LAFC. Carlos Vela ( 14.8M ) has 3 goals already this season and is the obvious choice. I do like the defensive side of LAFC here with Mbacke ( 10.2M ) 2 clean sheets and another expected here and a goal for him this season. For Vancouver, Lucas Cavallini ( 5.4M ) leads the line and bagged a goal in the defeat vs Houston, Cristian Dajome ( 5.5M ) provided the assist for that goal.

As this contest allows multi entries, I will likely be entering different line ups. Here’s an example of one of my line ups I will be entering using some of the players mentioned.
