MLS GAMEWEEK 6 – PICKS AND TEAM REVEAL

Now that gameweek 5 is out the way and the international break, we are back for gameweek 6
with a full slate of MLS games. FanTeam have laid on another exciting MLS Full round contest for us to dig into.

Game week 6 features 14 games and kicks off Saturday evening starting with Chicago Fire VS FC Dallas (8.30pm BST) and ending with  Portland Timbers Vs LA Galaxy on Sunday evening (21.30pm BST)

This week’s contest is a full round slate where all MLS games are involved so a huge pool of talent to pick from and i’m here to hopefully help you with who to target team wise and what players I fancy followed by one of my team reveals

THE CONTEST

The full round contest runs through 2-3 April

The full round game has 1 contest this week with an entry fee of €5 and a prizepool of €1000.

The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 105.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, in the event that your captain does not play, your vice captain will then score 2x points.

You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.

No bench required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.

Standard scoring applies to this contest.

With the rules covered, let’s take a look at some of my picks from each game  shall we?

THE GAMES

Chicago Fire Vs FC Dallas (Saturday 8.30BST)

Both teams have started the season off strongly. Chicago have only conceded one goal in the 4 games played, 2 of their games have been 0-0 draws. Dallas have picked up form in their last 2 games after a slow start. Dallas however have played 3 of their 4 games at home, the one away game they have played resulted in a defeat to New England Revolution. Head to head with these two make for interesting reading, whilst they haven’t played each other since 2019, usually the home team gets the win, with the last time the away team won was in 2013.

Where I am looking player wise is defensively for Chicago, Goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina ( 8.2M ) has kept 3 clean sheets in 4, and made 8 saves, so is a decent option this week. Going forward Kacper Przybylko (10.1M ) has 2 goals this season and will be looking to get more this week. For Dallas, the obvious choice would be the hat trick hero last time out Jesus Ferreira (8.1M ) who also got on the scoresheet for the USA during the break, Paul Arriola ( 7.1M ) is an interesting one for this week, also on the scoresheet this week for the USA and in his previous outing for Dallas.

Cincinnati Vs CF Montreal (Saturday 9pm BST)

Cincinnati were one of the teams that didn’t get a week off last week, however they rather wish they had as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Charlotte. Cincinnati have had a mixed start with 2 wins and 2 defeats. Brandon Vazquez (10.7M ) is the main man for this team with 4 goals and is joint top scorer in the league, Cincinnati cant keep a clean sheet so will need Vazquez to add to his tally if they want another win on there record.

Montreal haven’t started too well and that’s being kind. 1 point on the board after 4 games and they are leaking goals for fun, they also blew a 3-1 lead over Atlanta in there last game. They do however usually grab a goal with them scoring in 3 out of the 4 games so far this season. Ismael Kone ( 7.9M ) has 3 assists and a goal this season and is a cheap option for your midfield this week, Romell Quioto ( 8.5M ) who leads the line for Montreal got his goal scoring off to a start vs Atlanta from the spot will be licking his lips against this Cincinnati defense.

Toronto FC Vs New York City  (Saturday 9pm BST)

A big game for both teams due to how poorly both have started this season. Toronto will be looking to use their victory in the last game at home to continue this week vs New York. And what better time to play the current MLS cup champions then on the back of 2 defeats in their last two games, one in the league and one in the CONCACAF cup.

Toronto have scored in every game so far this season, Jesus Jimenez (8.5M ) has 2 goals to his name this season and Toronto will be hoping he can add to New York’s misery by adding more to his name, he also has an assist which is an added bonus for a cheaper striking option this week. His teammate Jonathan Osorio ( 8.1M ) also has 2 goals and an assist this season so both are key to a Toronto team hoping to improve on their season.

New York will be looking to use the break as a way to get back to winning ways, as they have started slowly which wasn’t helped by their desire to focus on the CONCACAF, they do have there semi final game midweek vs Seattle so it will be interesting to see how they approach this game with Toronto. Valentin Castellanos ( 10.4M ) has yet to get off the mark this season, but Talles Magno ( 10.2M ) is the shining light coming out of New York’s season so far and will be hoping both can be on fire to get a result here. Games between the two are usually close affairs with both games last season being score draws.

Columbus Crew Vs Nashville SC  (Saturday 11pm BST)

The crew have yet to lose thisseason and this is thanks to a 95th minute equalizer vs the red bulls from Darlington Nagbe (8M) however the big news after this game was the injury to the crews key midfielder Lucas
Zelarayan, Zela suffered a knee injury which should see him miss a game or two. Derrick Etienne (10.1M ) with his 2 goals and 3 assist in this free scoring team will be hoping to make the loss of Zela a small one.

Nashville are on their 5th away game before they move into their new stadium. They have not won since the first game of the season and will be hoping they can change their fortunes, but even without zela i find this a hard task for nashville. Games with Nashville are usually low scoring affairs and when these 2 have met before they have never gone over 2 goals in the game. I don’t fancy much from the Nashville side of things here, the one standout would be Hany Mukhtar ( 6M ) which is more for the value, he does however have 2 assists.

DC United Vs Atlanta Utd (Sunday 12.30am BST)

This game probably gets lost in the slate with options in other games catching the eye of people building their line ups this week, however this game could be where the value is. Atlanta are a high scoring team but also have a tendency to concede. DC started well, however these games were against Cincinnati and Charlotte. Games between the two usually result in goals with the last 4 games all having 3 or more goals in them and 3 out of the 4 having both teams score.

This is where I go a little left field, Bill Hamid (7.9M) has 20 saves this season and whilst I expect him to concede I also expect him to make some saves, so could be an option for your goalkeeper this week. Josef Martinez (8.5M) doesn’t need me to tell you what this guy can do. He has 2 goals and 2 assists this season and is the main man for Atlanta. He also has goals in both his last games vs DC. Brooks Lennon (6.1M) seems to be playing in more of an advanced role and whilst he is down as a defender does have an assist and a goal this season. So a cheap option to get in your defense this week.

New England Revolution Vs New York Red Bulls (Sunday 12.30am BST)

A mouth watering game on paper here and looking at last season’s games you would be silly not to think so. 3 games last season resulted in 14 goals, New England winning all 3 games and both teams scoring in all 3. New England have had a rough start to the season which wasn’t helped by being knocked out of the CONCACAF cup and then losing to Charlotte before the break. They had been rotating players but I fully expect their strongest team to take the field this weekend.

The obvious choices for your team would be Carles Gil ( 11.2M ) and Adam Buksa ( 11.4M ) Gil have 2 goals and an assist whilst Buksa has 2 assists. These two are the key to New England turning their season around and big games will be needed by both this weekend. New York had a good start to the season but have struggled in their last 2 games. Lewis Morgan ( 8.1M ) and Patryk Klimala (7.6M) are the main contributors to the New York attack and both will be needed to add misery to New Englands season.

Orlando City Vs Los Angeles FC (Sunday 12.30am BST)

Another mouth watering game on the slate. LA are unbeaten this season and top the Western Conference. Orlando sit 5th in the eastern but were one of the unlucky ones who played last weekend and couldn’t overcome 10 man Portland. Games between the two have seen both teams to score in all 3 games played with LA yet to feel defeat to Orlando. I do fancy LA here but also fancy Orlando to get on the scoresheet.

The obvious pick for this game is Carlos Vela ( 10.2M ) joint top goalscorer in the MLS with 4 goals and one assist to add. LA do seem to like a defender getting on the scoresheet, Ryan Hollingshead ( 7.3M ) is a doubt for the game, but I wouldn’t put you off taking the risk on him or you could opt for Mamadou Fall  (6.4M). From an Orlando point of view, they will have a few players back from internationals, but i like the look of Junior Urso ( 8.6M ) who has played in all the games this season and has bagged 2 goals in the process, they should welcome back Facundo Torres ( 8.8M ) who they missed against Portland as he was away with Uruguay.

Philadelphia Union vs Charlotte (Sunday 12.30am BST)

On paper this looks like an easy home win, but Charlotte have won two on the bounce all be it with both of these being home games, but will be full of confidence going into this one against the Union. Philadelphia currently sit top of the Eastern Conference with 3 wins and a draw, Charlotte have 2 wins and 3 defeats and didn’t have the luxury of a week off last week.

Philadelphia have Daneil Gazdag (13.3M) who is the most expensive player on the slate this week and for the right reasons, he has 3 goals in 4 games from midfield and is the key to Philadelphia having a good season. The expectations here are that Philly will win and keep a clean sheet and I wouldn’t put you off picking a defensive player from them but you will be paying more than maybe needed. Julian Carranza ( 12.5M )
should get the start up front but has yet to complete 90 minutes this season. Charlotte have
Karol Swiderski (6.2M ) who has 4 goals in two games and will need to take any chances that
fall his way if hes to follow this up this week.

San Jose Earthquakes vs Austin FC (Sunday 12.30am BST)

Austin have had a great start to the season, but as I’ve touched on in previous articles they did have an easy start to the season which has been backed up since also. So for me their stats are a bit over inflated due to the nature of the two wins they had. San Jose have been awful so far other than a great comeback vs Columbus after going down to 10 men to grab a 3-3 draw. San Jose needs a result here and they will be encouraged by the fact that last season they were undefeated vs Austin with 2 wins and a draw. This one seems tough to call.

Austin has Sebastian Driussi ( 9.3M ) and Cecilio Dominguez ( 8.8M ) who both have 2 goals each but they came in the big victories vs Cincinnati and Inter Miami. It’s hard to find a player I like for San Jose as they have been so poor, however James Marcinkowski (7.9M) has 15 saves in 4 games so could be an interesting option this week for a goalkeeper based on the stats.

Inter Miami Vs Houston Dynamo  (Sunday 1am BST)

This could be the worst game on the slate but the potential again for a gem to be found at a cheap price. Miami are an awful team but it’s this type of game that they will sneak a win and could help them improve going forward in the season. Phil Neville needs a result also as I’m sure Becks won’t be too impressed if results don’t go their way.

Houston games this season have been uninspiring with only one game having 3 goals or more in. Houston though could quite easily snatch a win here but i’m sure would take a point. This will be Houston’s second away game of the season and their only defeat so far came away to Sporting Kansas. Deandre Yedlin (7.1M) could help you get better options in your team, but for me the value is the Houston players in this match up. Steve Clark (6.6M ) is a great option for goalkeeper this week, Darwin Quintero (7.8M) and Tyler Pasher (7.5M)could be worth an add to your team if you think Houston can snatch a victory here.

Minnesota Vs Seattle Sounders  (Sunday 1am BST)

A fascinating game this one, with Minnesota currently sitting 3rd in the Western Conference, and Conference favorites Seattle currently 11th and have been focusing on the CONCACAF cup as well as having injuries to their two best players. The last 5 games between the two teams have resulted in the win going to the home
team and based on current form you would expect the same again here. Seattle has the CONCACAF cup tie midweek also so maybe have one eye on that too.

A great time for Minnesota to take advantage, Robin Lod ( 9.4M ) Hassani Dotson ( 9M ) and Luis Amarilla (9.6M ) all options to have in your line ups this week. Seattle will need to rely on Albert Rusnak (7.6M) to take a hold of this game if they are to take anything from it. The returning Will Bruin (6.9M) will be looking to get the start and Seattle will need him to add to his goal that he got on his return to the starting line up before the international break.

Vancouver Whitecaps Vs Sporting Kansas City (Sunday 1am BST)

Vancouver are currently the worst team in the MLS but have only played one game at home this season which was was a 0-0 with New York City. Sporting have played two away from home and lost both but have won both there home games. Last seasons games between the two saw the home team take the wins with plenty of goals in all 3 games. So I’m hoping for goals here too.

Lucas Cavallini (8.9M) leads the line for vancouver but the canadian international only has managed one goal so far this season. Daniel Salloi ( 8.8M ) returned for Sporting Kansas before the international break and will be needed here if sporting want to pick up the win. Johnny Russel ( 8.7M ) will be looking to add to his goal that he got before the break and I fancy one of these two to get on the scoresheet here and a possible away win.

Colorado Rapids Vs Real Salt Lake (Sunday 2am BST)

6th in the Western Conference vs 2nd in the Western Conference. Another tough one to call. 4 games between the two teams last season with Real Salt lake winning 3. Colorados victory however was in one of the home games.

Colorado are unbeaten at home this season without conceding a goal also. Lucas Esteves (8.6M) is an interesting player this week as he plays on the left side of a midfield four but is classed as a defender. 2 clean sheets and 2 assists this season suggests he could get some points for your lineup this week. Diego Rubio (11.5M) is the talisman for Colorado and has bagged a goal in both wins this season. Zac MacMath ( 5.1M ) is a great value play at goalkeeper this week, 2 clean sheets in 5 games along with 19 saves could give you some points for cheap. Bobby Wood ( 6.1M ) if he’s in the squad for this week then he is a good
cheap option for your forward position, Real will be hoping he’s available as they missed him in the defeat to Kansas last week.

Portland Timbers Vs LA Galaxy  (Sunday 9.30pm BST)

This game rounds off the slate of games for game week 6. Both teams are currently sitting on 6 points each but Portland have played a game more. Portland haven’t lost at home so far this season, the Galaxy have a win and a loss on the road so far. Being the last game on the slate you’re probably wondering if it’s worth
risking a player or two. Previous games suggest that this game will be a goal fest. Games between the two in the last 5 meetings have produced 23 goals. With Portland generally coming out on top.

Yimmi Chara ( 10.5M ) started the season well with 2 goals and an assist but has been quiet in his last two games. The obvious pick for the Galaxy is Javier Hernandez ( 9M ) little pea has two goals so far this season. The other fancy for this game is Rayan Raveloson (7.3M) has 2 assists and 2 clean sheets and seems to be providing the creation from midfield that was expected of Douglas Costa who hasn’t even played a full 90 minutes yet either.
