SCOTTIE TAMES AUGUSTA AND THE RETURN OF THE GOAT!
Golf’s first major is in the books and what an exciting week it was. Plenty of big names missed the cut at Augusta as the course of inches claimed many victims again. The biggest name in world golf (Tiger Woods) returned after a 500 day lay off from multiple leg injuries and remarkably made the cut, showing how vital course knowledge is around those holy grounds. But it was Scotties week as he claimed his first major title with a 3 shot victory over Rory McIlroy.
The FanTeam season long golf contest is really heating up! We are just 5 weeks away from golf’s second major, the PGA Championship and there are just 200 points separating 1st from 100th in the rankings.
In this article today I will be bringing you the upcoming schedule as well as some of my favourite golfers to target.
RBC HERITAGE
This week the PGA tour rolls onto the RBC Heritage in South Carolina. An underrated stop on the tour that is easily identified with its signature lighthouse. The winner this week will also receive a jacket of their own much like Augusta.
Head over to the FanTeam blog and check out the RBC Heritage preview article.
FANTEAM SEASON LONG TRACKER
I can’t state enough how important this tool is in planning out your future weeks for the season long golf contest.
Current updates include, full RBC Heritage field, 3 players confirmed for the Mexico open, 4 players confirmed for the Wells Fargo and 50 in the PGA Championship. The tracker also shows you if certain golfers played the events in 2020/2021.

THE WEEKS AHEAD….
Golf fields are hard to predict. This week’s RBC Heritage is a prime example of that with 90% of the field getting announced late last Friday evening. The good thing for our season-long teams now is we have some data and fields to work with.
At least 5 golfers in this field went deep into last week’s Masters championship so I think it’s safe to say we will get a withdrawal or 2. I do not advocate making any changes until as late as possible.
2 golfers confirmed so far for the RBC Heritage and the Mexico Open – Abraham Ancer (11.2M) and Carlos Ortiz (9.0M).
2 golfers confirmed so far for the Wells Fargo and PGA Championship – Sergio Garcia (9.7M) and Max Homa (9.0M)
1 golfer confirmed so far for the Byron Nelson and PGA Championship – Scottie Scheffler (11.8M)
TRANSFERS
I will almost certainly be transferring in some of those players mentioned above this week as we know what their schedule is. I would also want to transfer in some guys that have the potential to win these upcoming events if I could.
RBC Heritage – Shane Lowry (9.6M)
The former Open champion made a good run at Augusta National last week with a tied 3rd finish. You have to be a good iron player around the Heritage and Lowry is most certainly that. Playing some of the best golf of his career, Lowry comes back to a course he really enjoys with multiple top 10 finishes in the past.
Mexico Open – Dustin Johnson (13.0M)
As of now only 3 golfers have committed to the Mexico Open (Abraham Ancer, Carlos Ortiz and Jon Rahm) The good thing for us is the week before this contest starts is the Zurich pairs event so we will have the whole field before we have to make any changes. Dustin Johnson has played this event multiple times in the past and has won around here 3 times before in 2019, 2017 and 2015. I really like what I saw from Johnson at Augusta last week and should he tee it up here again he would be amongst the favourites yet again.
Wells Fargo Championship – Webb Simpson (11.0M)
Much like the Mexico Open we only have 3 confirmed in this field currently (Sergio Garcia, Max Homa and Webb Simpson) The Wells Fargo is played at Quail Hollow golf club and is very much a second shot golf course. I’ve been really impressed with Simpson since coming back from injury and he has a good record here with multiple top 10 finishes and a second place finish back in 2015.
Byron Nelson Championship – Scottie Scheffler (11.8M)
As of right now Scottie to Hotty is the only player committed into this field in a championship that has not been played since 2019. He is the hottest player in world golf currently, and at 46% ownership in the season long game I don’t see no need to move on from him. The good thing about holding him is you can use him in what is predicted to be a weaker field here and the PGA Championship the week after.
PGA Championship – Rory McIlroy (12.8M)
Rory just has to play 4 days of golf! I’m convinced again by what I saw on Sunday at Augusta National that he can once again win a major title. His 64 on Sunday should be a major boost for the rest of the year and for his prospects of breaking that 8 year major duck.
WILDCARD
As of right now I would say a lot of people have already wildcarded at the Corales Championship. For those who have not I wouldn’t advise using it along this stretch personally. Instead I would save it for the John Deere or Barbasol championships down the line with similar weaker fields to the Corales.
If you are in desperate need of that hard reset though then I would advise using it at the Mexico Open. As I have mentioned above, the Zurich Open Pairs event will be played before the Mexico Open so we will have access to the whole field pre tournament. If you do wildcard here I’d advise planning with the tracker to make sure you can field 6 all the way to the Players Championship.
Golfers to target in a wildcard, Jon Rahm (14.0M), Scottie Scheffler (11.8M), Abraham Ancer (11.2M) and Sergio Garcia (9.7M).
Goodluck to you all and I hope you are enjoying the FanTeam Golf Season long contest as much as me. Please feel free to message me on Twitter @JackHumphreyKM if you have any questions – all support queries should go to @FanTeamOfficial.
