@SMODFS Brings us his best plays and team reveal for the NBA Playoff Season Game.

FanTeam’s Fantasy NBA Playoffs tournament kicks off this Saturday and we can hardly wait. Although the regular season was certainly exciting, this is where the season really takes off as we enter the knockout rounds leading up to the NBA finals which begin on June the 2nd.

For anyone unfamiliar with the NBA playoffs it’s pretty simple! All rounds are played over a best of 7 series, with teams that have home field advantage hosting games 1,2,5 and 7, while their opponent will host games 3,4 and 6. Games 5,6 and 7 will only be played if needed.

The duration of the playoff contest will be around two months. (16th of April – 19th of June).

One thing’s for sure, we’re going to see some serious action over the next few months, and FanTeam has just the way to add even more excitement…

The fantasy playoff game has a prize pool of €20,000. The entry fee for the contest is €10 with the overall winner pocketing a cool €2,000 with prizes all the way down to 482nd place.

More information and rules can be found on the FANTEAM BLOG

The format of this tournament will be a 7-player with a 100M budget (same as the NBA Daily Shootout). You must pick one player from each position. There is no bench or safety net enabled for this tournament. So without further ado, here are those all-important picks

I am starting my build at point guard with Kyrie Irving (17.0m). The Nets barely squeaked into the playoffs and now they are going up against the Celtics, one of the best defenses in the league. Kyrie’s season had a lot of ups and downs but in the last 11 games – ever since he was allowed to play in the home games also – he played 40+ minutes in 10 of them! He is averaging 1.11 fantasy points per minute during that span and has a 28% usage rate, second behind Durant. Despite the tough match up, Irving’s playing time and rates make him an excellent option.

Shooting Guard is the position that I am going to use for  value, since none of the Top Tier players excite me that much to pay their hefty price tags.

My 1st pick is Jordan Poole (11.0m). He finished out the season with a 30% usage rate and averaged 1.26 fantasy points per minute. Of course, these rates drop down with Curry, Draymond Green and Klay on the floor (I expect them all to be active for the playoffs) but even then, we are talking about a fantasy point per minute guy that is going to play close to 35 minutes per night. At this price, I will take that any day.

My 2nd pick is Jordon Clarkson (10.5M) Clarkson has a specific role with the Jazz and that is to score points off the bench. His team is going up against the Mavericks in the 1st round of the playoffs and with Luka injured, this matchup is easier than what it looks like on paper. Regardless of that, Clarkson is going to play around 30 minutes per night and he is a 0.98 fantasy points producer for the season, which is an excellent rate for someone at his price range.

Jaylen Brown (15.0M) is my pick at Small Forward. Him and Tatum are the 2 studs at Boston and they will have the ball in their hands for the majority of the time. In the last month Brown is averaging 1.33 fantasy points per minute and has the same fantasy score average with Tatum, but he comes with a 2.5m discount. He has a 31% usage rate, averaging 21 FGA per game and he is going to be out there for 40+ minutes per night.

This is the second position that I will double up on, but I will take a different approach here, I will go with 1 expensive and 1  very cheap player.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (19.0m) needs no introduction really.  He has been one of the 2 top fantasy producers in the last three years and this year is no different. He is averaging 1.73 fantasy points per minute in the season, playing close to 34 minutes per game. I expect those minutes to go up during the playoffs, so I am seeing his floor being at 50 fantasy points per night. On top of that, he is facing the Bulls in the 1st round of the playoffs, a team that ranks bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed in the paint and a team that is the 4th worst in the league in Defensive Rating in the last couple of months!

My value pick for this team is Precious Achiuwa (8.0m). He has been a decent fantasy producer for the season, averaging 0.84 fantasy points per minute, and he is playing 23.5 minutes per game. His playing time is not secure but looks to have a floor of 23 minutes lately and with the Raptors going up against the Sixers and Embiid, I think that his services will be needed for more minutes than that. He does not have a big usage rate and he won’t take a lot of FG, but he can rack up defensive stats quickly, something that makes me like him even more.

Well, remember when I said that Giannis is one of the 2 fantasy producers in the last 3 years? Well, Nicola Jokic (18.5M) is the other one and he is my choice at the Center position.

Averaging 1.68 fantasy points per minute for the season, with a 27.7% usage rate and practically carried his team into the playoffs, Jokic is almost a lock in my opinion, since he is going up against the Warriors in the 1st round of the playoffs, a team that cannot defend him at all. In the 2 games that he played against them this season he has 70.75 and 71.25 fantasy points and I cannot see how this will change now. He can rack up points from every stat category, so even if his not hitting the bucket, he will find other ways to give us points.

With this being a multi entry contest, this is just an example of one of the number of line ups I will enter.

I hope this article has given you plenty of food for thought – especially for those of you that know very little about the NBA, but are playing in the NBA Playoff-Long contest.
