This article is dedicated to the double double-header in the IPL for this coming weekend. The article looks at different aspects of the game, which will help you hopefully make you enjoy the IPL like I do and the FanTeam contests.

FanTeam weekend IPL Contests begin Saturday 16th April at 11.00am BST 12.00 noon CET.

All daily IPL contests are €2 entry and have a prize pool of €200.

Saturday – Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Sunday – Punjab Kings vs Sunrises Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings

Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants

In the five games that this ground has hosted, 175 plus runs have been scored in seven innings. As such regarding the first game of the weekend; Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants, I’d strongly recommend stacking your team with assets who predominantly bat and also captaining one of them.

Mumbai Indians are in woeful form with five defeats in five but if there was ever a ground to get some form back it would be this. Mumbai’s late-middle order have been extremely poor this season and it’s the ones at the top who can make the most runs naturally. I’d be looking at their top four specifically for batting options. Rohit Sharma is due a big score.

With Lucknow Super Giants the two openers are rock solid options. Deepak Hooda is also in excellent form.Oneoption I particularly like is Jason Holder. He Bowls at the death of games and this is  where Mumba have struggled a lot so far. Furthermore, if he is to bat at number four again; this heightens his ceiling as an asset significantly.

Krunal Pandya, Avesh Khan, Dushmantha Chameera and Jasprit Bumrah are all options that would fill the remaining quota well.

Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers

This game is being played at the Wankhede, and contrary to the pattern at Brabourne; not a single team has scored above 175 here this season. Therefore, choosing a side which consists of bowlers and bowling all-rounders seems to be most logical.

At least two players will make significant runs in this game which makes choosing captaincy all the more important. In terms of the top 3 batsmen, I’d be looking to go with Faf Du Plesis and both the Delhi Capitals openers. Given Kohli will be the most expensive player, leaving him out to facilitate the rest of the squad is more than a logical play based on his form.

Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell should be high up the list in selection. Maxwell is the prime candidate for captaincy.

Dinesh Karthik is in great form, so if you are entering more than one team; spread your risk with those two.

Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Shadul Thakur, Axar Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Josh Hazelwood are the six bowlers/bowling all rounders to target.

Punjab Kings vs Sunrises Hyderabad

The game is being played at the DV Patil Stadium. This ground offers the closest match up between bat and ball, and as such makes selection far simpler as you can go with a more balanced side.

My certainties:

  1. Liam Livingstone
  2. Rahul Chahar
  3. Washington Sundar
  4. Shikhar Dhawan
  5. Kane Williamson
  6. Mayank Agarwal
  7. T Natarjan

The other four players I would be targeting are; Bairstow, Rabada, Kumar and Pooran.

Aiden Markram is the only player to miss out on the 11 who could very easily be in it.

This side has the complete top 4 from Punjab Kings and an opening batsman plus the number four wicket keeper from  Sunrises Hyderabad, and on a ground like this the bulk of runs will come from there. This side also has six players who bowl should the affair be a lower scoring one.

Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings

This ground (MAHARASHTRA CRICKET ASSOCIATION STADIUM) has a very similar complex to the one which was previously mentioned; however, the batting proficiency hasn’t been to quite the same extent.

As such I’d recommend a very similar (balanced) squad structure to the one in the Punjab Kings vs Sunrises Hyderabad game.

My certainties:

  1. Robin Uthappa
  2. Moeen Ali
  3. Shivam Dube
  4. Shubman Gill
  5. Hardik Pandya
  6. Ravindra Jadeja
  7. Rashid Khan

Following their fantastic performances in recent games, alongside the fact the bowling options haven’t been as consistent between these two sets of teams; Maheesh Theekshana and Lockie Ferguson are certainly sound choices.

The wicket-keeping position has to go to Matthew Wade opening the batting over  Dhoni who I think is just not an option given where he bats.

The final spot you could make an argument for so many people but I’d go DJ Bravo. His ability to always pick up wickets, contributions in the field and potential one’s with the bat mean you should see a baseline return of 15 points from him.

I hope this article has given you some food for thought, especially those who know very little about the IPL but want to play in the weekend contests

Some background on myself, this is the first Cricket article I have produced. I’ve been a Fantasy Football content creator for over a year now. I played Cricket at a relatively high level in England, and have captained my sides; that is where my knowledge stems from. For some reference I won the inaugural IPL monster event!
