This article is dedicated to the double double-header in the IPL for this coming weekend. The article looks at different aspects of the game, which will help you hopefully make you enjoy the IPL like I do and the FanTeam contests.

With teams starting to slowly disperse from each other in the table, the games arguably are becoming more and more crucial for each side. More importantly from a fantasy perspective, both players and teams are starting to establish some sort of a “form hierarchy”. I’d suggest to go with the tide in this case, they are always more likely to continue good form rather than stop at a halt.

FanTeam weekend IPL Contests begin Saturday 23rd April at 11.00am BST 12.00 noon CET.

I’ve been a Fantasy Football content creator for over a year now, and regularly produce content over at Fantasy Football Hub. I played Cricket at a relatively high level in England, and have captained my sides; that is where my knowledge stems from.

For some reference I won the inaugural IPL monster event!

Saturday – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunday – Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans

This match is being played at the DV Patil Stadium, the most balanced ground when it comes to the contest between bat and ball. We have seen both these sides are slightly better on the batting front, so choosing the less obvious bowling picks will be the key to success.

In terms of captaincy material, Shreyas Iyer is the best pick on paper. He’s averaging just under 40 at a strike rate of just under 150, phenomenal and it’s just so difficult to go against his consistency. Of course, there are a plethora of other alternatives with high ceilings such as; Aaron Finch, Andre Russell (quite risky), Sunil Narine (fairly risky – dependent on his batting position), Shubman Gill (slight wobble in form as of late), David Miller (bit low in the batting order for my liking) and Rashid Khan and the other standout option; Hardik Pandya (if fit).

All the players mentioned should be fairly secure picks on your side.

That leaves three players to choose. I’d go with Pat Cummins, someone who can produce a high ceiling performance in any game. Mohammed Shami for his ability to pick up wickets at the top. We saw Mukesh Choudary score a lot of points in this manner yesterday. There last space you could argue anyone, I’d go with Umesh Yadav but just.

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

This match is being played at Brabourne, the run machine of the IPL this year. Very simply, stack your side with predominantly batting assets and most certainly captain one of them.

The two sides face slightly different issues. With Royal Challengers Bangalore it’s that two of the top three are very out of form. With Sunrisers Hyderabad it’s that there’s no one in particular who’s in brilliant form but rather people keep chipping in, hence it makes it harder for selection.

To put it into perspective, out of the top 20 run scorers, only one of them is from the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp. As such I’d certainly stick the armband on the more reliable Faf Du Plessis or Glenn Maxwell. Alongside them I would have Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Suyash S Prabhudessai and Shabaz Ahmed.

Depending on the structure of the rest of your squad it’s probably only feasible to have one of Kohli or Williamson. Go with your gut on that one, I’d go for Kohli. The wicket-keeping position is a very difficult one but I prefer Pooran as he bats higher up the order. I’m confident Royal Challengers Bangalore will win this game and as such their bowlers outperform Sunrisers Hyderabad Patel, Hazelwood and Hasaranga are all fantastic options. Kumar is the pick of the bunch when it comes to the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers as Royal Challengers Bangalorehave had their struggles up top.

Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians

Being played at the Wankhede, whilst it is MI’s home they are in horrid form (especially the top order) and it’s a ground which has favoured the bowling sides more this year. Kl Rahul is an absolute certainty, he’s in blistering form with the second most runs in the tournament and scored a hundred against MI last time out. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav are also in great form and should be safe picks in the side. Varma made a fantastic half century yesterday.

Quinton De Kock gets the nod as keeper, whilst both aren’t in brilliant form, his quality is enough for me. Dewald Brevis is also another pretty good option as he will be priced cheaply.

Krunal Pandya potentially batting at four and bowling is also a lock. Alongside Daniel Sams, who picked up four wickets against Chennai and has the ability to score runs at the back end of an innings. Bumrah is the only other MI asset I would be considering however I prefer to stack the team with predominantly Lucknow Super Giants players.

Holder, Bishnoi, Chameera and Khan are all fantastic bowling options. There’s really not much to separate them but if I had to, Chameera is the one I would leave out. Other Lucknow Super Giants assets such as Stoinis and Hooda have been left out showing you the strength of this side.

In terms of captaincy, certainly an LSG player. Either Kl Rahul, Avesh Khan or Krunal Pandya.

I hope this article has given you some food for thought, especially those who know very little about the IPL but want to play in the weekend contests
