A massive 2 nights of champions league football starts tonight with Manchester City VS Real Madrid.

12 time winners Real Madrid disposed of holders Chelsea in the quarter final stage in what was an instant classic. Manchester City finally got past a stubborn Atletico Madrid in a heated affair and will look to make their second consecutive champions league final.

To celebrate this giant European clash FanTeam have created some exciting contests for us to sink our teeth into.

Enter the UCL game lobby by CLICKING HERE to see the contests available for tonight’s slate.

The great thing about FanTeam as a platform is I can play daily fantasy contests, player matchups and make my sportsbook bets all in the same place.

FanTeam champions league contests are played under the very unique pursuit mode, but what is pursuit mode?

Pursuit is a unique format in which players are essentially handicapped according to how good of a performance we would expect from them. Instead of being limited by a predefined budget users can pick players by bonus points as well as a captain who will score double bonus points and a vice captain who will score 1.5 bonus points.

Bonus points are awarded at the start of a contest. Low expectation players will have a higher starting point whereas high expectation players will have a lower starting point. Pursuit allows the user to start the tournament in the lead, or choose to start behind the eight ball.

More details on pursuit mode can be found by CLICKING HERE or in the rules section inside the game lobby.

Safety Net is enabled for this contest meaning all non starting players will be replaced at the beginning of their match. Note this is only if there is a player from the same club, in the same position with equal or cheaper price.

Standard FanTeam scoring applies.

I think Manchester City will find Real Madrid a lot easier to break down tonight than they did Atletico. Chelsea showed in the quarter final just how vulnerable Real Madrid can be at the back with 28 efforts on goal in the second leg alone. Had it not been for a stroke of genius from Modric, Chelsea would have progressed.

Real Madrid have kept only one clean sheet in their last 7 games. This bodes well for Manchester City who have been in excellent goal scoring form with 10 goals in their last 3 games.

Real Madrid do have plenty of flaws but they do have the in-form Karim Benzema and a healthy squad to choose from for this match. Not to mention they have a world class coach in Carlo Ancelloti who is a multiple time winner of this tournament, so they have to be respected.

Manchester City – Moraes Ederson, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias,  Riyad Mahrez, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden.

Real Madrid – Thibaut Courtois, Daniel Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior.

Manchester City

Manchester City are favoured tonight and that shows as all their players will start on minus points. Manchester City can be a hard team for fantasy purposes as they don’t really have that out and out striker, with goals coming across many of their midfielders.

With this in mind and the way I like to build pursuit teams this will be my favourite Manchester City lineup for tonight’s slate.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are the underdogs tonight and their players will start on plus points. Thibaut Courtois, Daniel Carvajal and Ferland Mendy could haul a massive points total if Madrid can hold City out. The other 2 picks are easy as they are Real’s true goal threat.

With this in mind and the way I like to build pursuit teams this will be my favourite Real Madrid lineup for tonight’s slate.

What are player matchups?

Player matchups is an exciting FanTeam game that enables players to bet on between 3 and 10, designated 1 – vs – 1 fantasy matchups, with the potential to win up to 500X your stake.

Player matchups essentially act as a fantasy football accumulator, in which the payout increases the more matchups the user bets on. The great thing with FanTeam player matchups is that you are betting against the house rather than thousands of other players.

If you want more info on how player matchups work, please CLICK HERE.

Why do I like player matchups?

The reason I love player matchups aside from the obvious cash rewards is just the fact it’s a simple way to apply my fantasy knowledge without the need to build or manage a fantasy roster.

The simplicity of matchups means all I have to assess is how well I think certain players/teams will perform that week and just bet on the guys/teams I like, rather than managing transfers/rosters etc.

Manchester City as mentioned can be a hard team to predict with Pep roulette but I firmly believe he plays his best 11 tonight as City are desperate to win this trophy. With this in mind I believe that Mahrez who has been in fine form recently will out score Sterling fantasy wise. My other selection is Bernardo Silva over Jack Grealish, Silva is the engine in the City midfield and is coming off a haul against Sporting in the last 16.

From the Real Madrid side the selection is easy for me and it’s Karim Benzema over Vinicius Junior. Benzema is arguably in the best form of his whole career and if Real are going to progress they will need him to continue that impressive form.

A £10 player matchups bet on these 3 selections will return £60 if it should land.

Semifinals can be cautious affairs at the best of times but I can not see that here. Manchester City averaged 3.4 goals per game in the champions league this year and Real Madrid are averaging 3.1 goals per game. Combined that’s 3.25 goals per game, with this in mind my bet is an easy one over 2.5 goals at 1.70.

A £20 bet will return £34.00 if it lands.
