THE MAN FROM DOWN UNDER LEADS THE WAY AFTER ROUND 1
The pre tournament favourite Rory McIlroy finished his day with a 67 and currently sits at 3 under par. Rory reeled off four straight birdies to get to 4 under par through 6 holes before a double bogey put the only blemish on his scorecard. Nonetheless he sits tied 15th and the reigning champion will hope to take his fine form into day 2 and put heat on the leaders.
Round One leader Jason Day rolled back the years as he put on a ball striking clinic to finish the day 7 under par and take a narrow lead over Joel Dahmen, Matthew Wolff, Denny McCarthy, Aaron Rai and Callum Tarren.
The Wells Fargo leaderboard remains tightly packed going into round 2, so we should be in for another exciting day of golfing action and cut sweats.
FanTeam have created a Day 2 Wells Fargo Championship contest for us to enjoy. €2buy-in with €600 prize pool. Contests start 6th May, 11.50am BST 12.50pm CET

ROUND 1 STATS
STROKES GAINED ON APPROACH
TPC Potomac is definitely a middle to long iron course and that showed in round 1 with Over two thirds of all approach shots coming from over 150 yards out. The small greens caused havoc for the golfers so approach has to be on point.
- Joel Dahmen
- Wesley Bryan
- Rory Sabbatini
- Marc Leishman
- Adam Svensson
STROKES GAINED OFF THE TEE
The rough is a real problem around this golf course so accuracy is key. TPC Potomac ranked 2nd out of 37 PGA Tour golf courses in average difference of score from rough locations drives vs. drives in the fairway. This confirms the importance of driving accuracy.
- Matthew Wolff
- Matthew Fitzpatrick
- Sepp Straka
- Richy Werenski
- Jason Day
STROKES GAINED AROUND THE GREEN
Short games certainly matter around TPC Potomac. Players missed greens frequently in round one and with this course possessing the 5th hardest bunkers on Tour the golfers will most certainly have to be hot with their short game to compete.
- Stephen Jaeger
- William McGirt
- J.T. Poston
- Jason Day
- Gary Woodland
Beginning at 5:00am EST, the rain begins, and it does not stop until 20.00pm EST on Saturday night! Now it’s light rain with a low risk of thunderstorms currently so fingers crossed we don’t get any delays.
The morning players will see rainy conditions with wind gusts up to 17 mph on Friday. The afternoon players will also see rainy conditions in the afternoon, but with wind gusts up to 22 mph.
It might be worth factoring this into your lineups for round 2.
