I’m back for a review of game week 12 in the MLS. Last week again showed how unpredictable the MLS can be with alot of teams you would expect to win failing to do so. A Lot of teams have played in the US open cup this week so hopefully I can find some gems to get into those teams this week.

We have 14 games this week. As always the slate requires an 11 man team, with that let’s get into it.

The full round contest runs through 14th – 15th May

The full round game has 1 contest this week with an entry fee of €5 and a prize pool of €600.

The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 108.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, in the event that your captain does not play, your vice captain will then score 2x points.

You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.

No bench required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.

Standard FanTeam scoring applies to this contest.

With the rules covered, let’s take a look at some of my picks from each game  shall we?

Toronto FC Vs Orlando City – (20.00BST 14/05/22)

Both of these sides can’t decide if they want to have a good season or a bad season. Toronto are on a 4 game losing streak currently which includes a double loss to Cincinnati. They are going to want to turn their form around here at home. To do so they will need top scorer Jesus Jimenez ( 9.4M ) to find his scoring touch to add to this tally. Alejandro Pozuelo ( 9.1M ) is also a key player in this Toronto team and had he not missed his penalty last week maybe Toronto could have gotten something from the game. Orlando came into this game after being thumped last week 4-1 away to CF Montreal. They will need Facundo Torres ( 8.6M ) and Ercan Kara ( 8.5M ) to be on form here to try and add to Toronto’s misery. Games between the two are usually close games with goals and I’d expect that to be the case here.

Colorado Rapids Vs Los Angeles FC (20.30BST 14/05/22)

LAFC have the best record in the MLS and sit top of the Western Conference. Colorado at home doesn’t lose, or at least they haven’t done so far this season. Colorado’s midweek cup game got abandoned on Wednesday and will resume Thursday, so this early game on Saturday is not ideal for them. From a DFS point of view LAFC have not been reliable. Carlos Vela (9.7M) has not scored in 6 games but did get a hat trick when these two sides met on the opening day. Jose Cifuentes ( 9.3M ) is the inform player for LAFC and could be someone to look at this week. Colorado welcomed back Diego Rubio ( 9.5M ) from suspension and will be looking for him to add to his 5 goal tally this season. The home team in this fixture usually come out on top but don’t be surprised if LAFC walk away with a result here.

Charlotte Vs CF Montreal (00.00BST 15/05/22)

This game has me intrigued. Charlotte have had a good start to MLS life and when playing at home have won 4 out of 5. Montreal are sitting 3rd in the Eastern Conference and are one of the form sides in the MLS, they are currently 8 unbeaten. This is probably Charlotte’s toughest test at home so far this season. And they will probably be encouraged at the fact Montreal do love to concede a goal. Charlotte have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 3 home games and that’s largely down to Kristijan Kahlina ( 7.7M ). Montreal have Djordje Mihailovic ( 8.1M ) who has 5 goals and 3 assists and is the main man in the Montreal team and a great price this week. Joaquin Torres ( 7.4M ) has been getting alot more minutes for Montreal and knows where the goal is as well as providing them for his team mates.

New York City Vs Columbus Crew (00.00BST 15/05/22)

This will be New York’s 5th home game on the trott, they have won 3 of the 4 played and will be disappointed they didn’t get the victory last week against Sporting Kansas City. They missed Valentin Castellanos ( 12.5M ) who was a surprise absentee from the team last week and is questionable to return this weekend. His replacement Heber ( 11.4M ) will be hoping to get his scoring boots on to try and stake a claim to stay in the starting 11. Columbus are starting to find some form and are unbeaten in their last 3, however they aren’t great away from home. Darlington Nagbe ( 5.7M ) and Derrick Etienne ( 6.4M ) have been key in this mini change of form and Columbus will need both to continue to try and take the result away from New York. Games between the two usually produce goals and NYCFC aren’t afraid to score despite a blank last week.

Vancouver Whitecaps Vs San Jose Earthquakes (00.00BST 15/05/22)

Both these sides are not very good, both only have 2 wins this season but both do love to concede goals. So this could be a great game to target if you expect goals. Vancouver will need Lucas Cavallini ( 9.9M ) to lead the line and try to add to his 1 goal this season to try and get the win here. San Jose have the inform Cristian Espinoza ( 8.1M ) with 4 goals and 2 assists so far this season and is one of the key players in this San Jose side. Jeremy Ebobisse ( 7.7M ) will be looking to end his mini goal drought against a poor Vancouver defense. This could be the game that helps you take down the slate this week if you get the right player in your team.

Philadelphia Union Vs New York Red Bulls (00.30BST 15/05/22)

Game of the weekend in the Eastern Conference, with 1st Vs 2nd. However both teams are in total opposite form. Philadelphia havent won in there last 4 games and the Red Bulls havent lost in there last 4 games. The Red Bulls have not won in Philly since 2018. This one is tough to call. Daniel Gazdag ( 9.1M ) though will always be a player that I look for no matter who Philadelphia is playing. 5 goals and 2 assists this season you would be a brave person to leave him out this week too. New York is a headache for DFS, every week someone different pops up with a goal or an assist, however Lewis Morgan ( 7.3M ) is probably the most reliable option if you want someone from the Red Bulls in your team. Looking forward to seeing who comes out on top on this one but I do expect both teams to score.

Chicago Fire Vs Cincinnati (01.00BST 15/05/22)

Chicago have shown lately how terrible they really are. They started the season off looking solid but now cant keep the ball out the net and are still struggling to score at the other end. Cincinnati on the other hand seem to have got a grip of their season and have won their last 3 games, albeit 2 of those were against an out of form Toronto. Brandon Vazquez ( 7.6M ) is back fit and grabbed the winner last time out away to Minnesota, this goal was assisted by Luciano Acosta ( 7.3M ) these two are the main men in Cincinnati and will be looking to add more misery to Chicago. Chicago really needs Shaqiri ( 10.7M ) to find some form and pull this Chicago team out of this awful form if they are to get anything from this season. It wouldn’t shock me if this game ended 0-0 but at the same time I don’t see Chicago keeping a clean sheet based on recent performances.

Inter Miami Vs DC United (01.00BST 15/05/22)

My love hate relationship with Inter Miami is starting to become an obsession i feel. Just as I thought they were starting to turn their season around they went and lost 2 on the bounce. However both of these were away from home. They are back on home soil this week and face a DC United side who can get a run together either. However Miami has not beaten DC in their 3 meetings between the two sides. Leonardo Campana ( 9M ) will be needed here to fire Miami back to winning ways. Gonzalo Higuain ( 8.7M ) could be back in the starting 11 this weekend after getting 45 minutes from the bench midweek. Taxiarchis Fountas ( 9M ) has 4 goals in 4 games since joining from Rapid Vienna and is a handy option here to add to his tally.

Houston Dynamo Vs Nashville SC (01.30BST 15/05/22)

Both sides sit mid-table in the Western Conference, with Nashville 3 points ahead in the standings. Nashville are back away from home something they have been very much used to this season. However there 2 home games were positive results and they will be looking to bring that form to Houston this weekend. Houston on the other hand are 4 games without a win and have started to fall down the league. These two have only met twice in the past with Nashville currently being unbeaten. Sebastian Ferreira ( 7.8M ) is a cheap option for your forward line this weekend, he has 4 goals to his name this season and bagged another in the cup during the week. Hany Mukhtar ( 7.9M ) again is another cheap option this weekend and has not let you down if you have used him this season in your line ups. When Nashville gets a positive result it’s usually when Mukhtar has some involvement, either grabbing a goal or an assist.

Real Salt Lake Vs Austin FC (02.30BST 15/05/22)

Real Salt Lake have 1 win in 7 going into this game but still sit 5th in the Western Conference. Austin have been amazing from game 1 but were dealt a blow last weekend with a home defeat at the hands of LA Galaxy. These two have met twice before with the home team in both games getting the win. Zac MacMath ( 8.1 M ) is the highest scoring player for Real Salt Lake on FanTeam and could be a good option again this weekend as he does provide quite a few saves. Austin is now being respected across the league and by myself, and their pricing here reflects that also. Sebastian Driussi ( 9.5M ) is the joint top scorer in the MLS with 7 goals from midfield. Diego Fagundez ( 9.2M ) has 6 assists this season and these two are key to Austin being where they are this season. I expect a close game here and don’t be surprised if Real Salt Lake walks away with a result here.

Portland Timbers Vs Sporting Kansas City (03.00BST 15/05/22)

Where to begin with this game? Portland has 1 win in 8 games, Sporting Kansas has 1 win in 9 games. Both have played 11 games this season, conceding 16 goals each. Games between the two usually produce a goal fest. 12 goals in the last 4 meetings suggests we could see some goals here too. Portland hasn’t lost to Sporting in the last 6 meetings. Have I convinced you about this game yet? Jaroslaw Niezgoda ( 10.1M ) has 3 goals this season however has yet to score at home, so he will be hoping to rectify that here. Sporting Kansas have Daniel Salloi ( 7.6M ) who is far too cheap even in a poor side and will be needed to get something from this game.

LA Galaxy Vs FC Dallas (03.30BST 15/05/22)

The Galaxy are quietly going about their business this season, despite a poor result against Real Salt Lake 2 game weeks ago, they have been good without being great and sit 3rd in the Western Conference. They face a Dallas side who sit 4th in the same conference and only have one defeat against their name. A game of the week contender in the Western Conference. However Dallas does have a slight issue. They can’t seem to win away from home this season. Both have good defensive records so I’m not expecting many goals here. Jonathan Bond ( 8.7M ) could be a great option to have in goal this game week, but he does come up against Jesus Ferreira ( 7.4M ) who has 7 goals this season. Javier Hernandez ( 11.2M ) hasn’t scored in his last 4 but still has 5 goals this season and is always a threat.

Atlanta Utd Vs New England Revolution (18.30BST 15/05/22)

Both these sides would have been expecting to have better seasons than they currently are having, however both can’t seem to stop conceding which doesn’t help them to climb the league. Atlanta have suffered from injuries to Josef Martinez and Brad Guzan which hasn’t helped their season. However Ronaldo Cisneros ( 10.4M ) has settled in well and has already got himself 4 goals since arriving in Atlanta. For New England the usual players will definitely feature in my teams this week, Carles Gil ( 8.2M ) is a steal at this price as well as Adam Buksa ( 8.1M ) who is finding his scoring form and will be looking to continue here this weekend. However New England do have a tendency to struggle in Atlanta but did grab a win last season when both met here.

Seattle Sounders Vs Minnesota (21.00BST 15/05/22)

Is this the week that Seattle starts to field a strong 11 in the league? I believe it will be. They are well rested having not played for 10 days and the reserves have played the last league game and midweek in the US cup. These two have met already this season with Seattle taking the win, which was the last time Seattle won in the league and one of the only times they played a strong 11. Nicolas Lodeiro ( 11.7M ), Raul Ruidaz ( 11.1M ) and Jordan Morris ( 10.9M ) are all great options this week. Minnesota will be looking for revenge here, but have lost their last 2 games. They were without a lot of their starting 11 last week against Cincinnati, so you would be taking a risk with the likes of Robin Lod ( 7.2M ) and Luis Amarilla ( 7M ) statuses currently unknown for this fixture.

As this contest allows multi entries, I will likely be entering different line ups. Here’s an example of one of my line ups I will be entering using some of the players mentioned.

I hope this article has given you plenty of food for thought – especially for those of you that know very little about MLS, but are playing in the MLS Main Event contest.

MLS Main Event cash contests  start at 20.00pm BST, so be sure to enter your lineups early to avoid missing out.
