So gameweek 13 has been and gone with some midweek madness. I feel like I say this weekly but again some unexpected results and plenty of goals. Game week 14 is here with a 14 game slate for the whole weekend lasting across 3 days due to the midweek slate. There’s a few suspensions to avoid but I’m here to give my take on the games this weekend.

The full round contest runs from 21st-23rd May

The full round game has 1 contest this week with an entry fee of €5 and a prize pool of €600.

The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 108.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, in the event that your captain does not play, your vice captain will then score 2x points.

You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.

No bench required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.

Standard FanTeam scoring applies to this contest.

With the rules covered, let’s take a look at some of my picks from each game  shall we?

Columbus Crew Vs Los Angeles FC – 20.30pm BST (21/5/22)

Columbus come into this game having had the midweek off and will be looking to take advantage of a tired LAFC after their defeat to Austin FC which left them in 2nd place in the Western Conference. Columbus are in mixed form and will be looking to make this home game count. Darlington Nagbe ( 8.8M ) has been getting the plaudits recently and he will be looking to continue his good form. Derrick Etienne ( 10.1M ) also will be needed by Columbus if they are to get a positive result. LAFC have now gone back to back in defeats and may use this game for a little rotation. I expect Cristian Arango ( 8.1M ) to be back in the starting 11 after being benched midweek. Carlos Vela ( 9.1M ) was back on the scoresheet in midweek, so could this be the start of a goalscoring run? These 2 have only met twice with LAFC taking the wins on both occasions.

DC United Vs Toronto FC – 21.00pm BST (21/5/22)

DC used the midweek game for a bit of rotation which ultimately came back to bite them as they then brought on 3 starters after being 2-0 down to NYCFC at half time. The game was done by this point so DC will be looking to grab something here against a very out of form Toronto team. Toronto themselves had the midweek off so will be hoping they can use that to their advantage. Taxiarchis Fountas (13.6M) was one of the players benched during the week but I expect him to be back for this one. Michael Estrada (13.3M) didn’t take to the field during the week and could also be in line for a return to the starting line up in this one. Toronto being in such bad form means they have been priced up quite nicely for the slate. Jesus Jimenez ( 7.1M ) is a cheap option for your front line, 7 goals this season shows he is worth the risk. Goals are what happens when these two meet with the last 7 meetings seeing both teams score. Toronto won the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Cincinnati Vs New England Revolution – 23.00pm BST (21/5/22)

Both these sides were afforded the luxury of having the midweek slate off. However these two sides met in the US Open cup where New England were victorious 5-1. Carles Gil (11.1M) scored a hat trick that night and will be a major threat here too. Adam Buksa ( 11M ) also bagged 2 in the cup and is in great scoring form recently scoring in his last 5 league games. Cincinnati themselves are on a 4 game winning streak and will be confident of getting something here as New England do like to concede. 6 goal Brandon Vazquez ( 9.8M ) will be looking to add to his tally, and hoping Luciano Acosta (9.3M) is in on the action as well. They have met 4 times in the MLS with New England currently winning this head to head 3 games to 1. Cincinnati has yet to beat New England at home.

Nashville SC Vs Atlanta Utd – 00.30am BST (22/5/22)

Nashville are at home, Nashville don’t lose when they are at home, and will be full of confidence with an impressive victory during the week vs Montreal. Hany Mukhtar (9.6M) was back on the scoresheet and that usually means Nashville get something from the game. I feel I write this weekly recently but this Nashville team really does click when he plays. Charles Sapong ( 9.1M ) seems to be enjoying playing at home and assisted Mukhtar for his goal midweek. A good price for both of these this week. Atlanta still havent come to terms with the loss of Josef Martinez to their team, that’s despite Ronaldo Cisneros ( 6.2M ) and Thiago Almada ( 6.1M ) doing their best to get and produce the goals. Atlanta have lost 4 of their 5 away games this season and will find this a tough test.

CF Montreal Vs Real Salt Lake – 21.00pm BST (22/5/22)

Montreal lost their first game in 9 during the week, but this was an away trip to Nashville which is becoming a tricky place to go. The defeat dropped them to third in the Eastern Conference and will be looking to get back to winning ways here. Real Salt Lake will come here rested from no midweek game and should bring confidence after beating Austin last time out. The midweek game was the first time in a while Djordje Mihailovic ( 11.6M ) did not record a goal or an assist and he will be wanting to rectify that here. Kei Kamara (10.8M) got the nod upfront against Nashville and grabbed himself a goal. Hopefully he retains the starting spot here. Real Salt Lake spread out their goals and assists usually which makes them difficult to pick players for. Maikel Chang ( 5.3M ) grabbed a goal and assist in the victory over Austin and he will be hoping he can kick on from this. Montreal have never lost at home vs Real Salt Lake and they will be hoping to keep that record alive.

Charlotte Vs Vancouver Whitecaps – 22.00pm BST (22/5/22)

Charlotte playing at home usually means a home win, but a defeat in their last home game last time out sent them back to the drawing board. Vancouver themselves are on a 3 game unbeaten run with an impressive win midweek at home to FC Dallas. Charlotte didn’t play midweek though and will be hoping this helps them here. Despite Vancouver’s form I do quite like Charlotte defensively here. Jaylin Lindsey ( 8.2M ) could be an option for your sides this week. Kristijan Kahlina (8.7M) is Charlotte’s highest scorer playing in Fan Team season long and again this week could be a great option for goalkeeper. Lucas Cavallini (6.7M) grabbed the winner against Dallas from the spot but got himself booked which means he misses this one, which Vancouver could have done without this if they are to continue their great run of form.

New York City Vs Chicago Fire – 22.00pm BST (22/5/22)

New York City have not conceded a goal in their last 4 games and they face a poor Chicago side here this weekend. Chicago however seem to have found their scoring boots in recent weeks but now can’t keep a clean sheet for toffee. I fear for them here. However one good thing for them is that Valentin Castellanos (13.9M) is suspended after picking up his 5th yellow of the season midweek. Heber ( 12.7M ) will no doubt deputize. Sean Johnson ( 10.8M ) could be a great choice for goalkeeper this week if you think NYCFC go 5 without conceding a goal. Chicago cant be relied on here but as ever Shaqiri ( 5.5M ) is far too cheap to ignore. NYCFC have never lost at home to Chicago in MLS history and it doesn’t look like they will here either.

Inter Miami Vs New York Red Bulls – 23.00pm BST (22/5/22)

This game could well be my worst nightmare when it comes to DFS. If you are a regular reader of my article you will know my love and hate for Inter Miami. The Red Bulls are hot on their heels for becoming my most hated team in DFS. Both are so unpredictable and unreliable. The Red Bulls however are 6 without defeat which suggests they are in decent form. Lewis Morgan (10.8M) is probably the only reliable player to have in your side from the Red Bulls and is the penalty taker. Inter Miami had a great result midweek with a 0-0 draw away to Philadelphia which nobody was expecting. Leonardo Campana ( 7M ) is still getting the nod ahead of Gonzalo Higuain ( 6.8M ) but was taken off for Higuain, so could we see a change in the starting 11 this weekend. Inter Miami have yet to beat the Red Bulls on home soil and will be hoping to change that here.

FC Dallas Vs Minnesota – 00.00am BST (23/5/22)

Dallas will be very disappointed to have lost midweek at Vancouver, and will be happy to be back playing at home where they are on a 5 game winning streak. Minnesota got a solid draw at home to LA Galaxy midweek but they themselves have lost their last 3 away games. Jesus Ferreira (12.8M) is a must have in your side this week, the MLS top scorer will be looking to extend his lead at the top by getting himself on the scoresheet here. Paul Arriola ( 11.8M ) has also been in great form recently and grabbed himself a goal midweek. I expect Dallas to be solid defensively too, so Marco Farfan ( 9.2M ) could be a good option in defense here. There’s only one player i’ll be looking at for Minnesota and that Robin Lod ( 6.9M ) played upfront midweek and grabbed a goal, expect him to play upfront again here if Luis Amarilla ( 6.5M ) still isnt fully fit to start. Seems to be a theme in this article but Dallas have not lost to Minnesota at home in the MLS.

San Jose Earthquakes Vs Sporting Kansas City – 00.30am BST (23/5/22)

One word, goals, and lots of them when either of these two sides play. San Jose are in decent form and are currently unbeaten in there last 3 games, in those 3 games they have scored 7 and conceded 5. Sporting Kansas got a good win midweek at home to Colorado, but will be without Daniel Salloi ( 8M ) who got sent off late in the game, so they will be looking to Johnny Russell ( 7.9M ) to try and get something from this game. Sporting Kansas also have not won away from home all season, so I fancy San Jose to keep their unbeaten run going. Jeremy Ebobisse ( 10.5M ) and Cristian Espinoza ( 10.7M ) are two players I’ll be trying to get in my side this weekend as both are behind San Jose’s form. In the last 7 games between the two they have all seen both teams score.

Austin FC VS Orlando City – 01.00am BST (23/5/22)

Just as i thought Austin were having a bad run of form they go away from home and get the victory against LAFC. That is an impressive result and puts them top of the Western Conference. The man with the winning goal, Diego Fagundez ( 10.7M ) could be someone to get into your line ups. Despite not finding the back of the net for a while Sebastian Driussi (11.1M) is always a danger. Orlando are very hit and miss this season, but aren’t terrible away from home and could cause an upset here. The problem with Orlando is from a DFS point of view you need to be on the right player. Facundo Torres ( 7.9M ) and Junior Urso ( 7.7M ) will both need to produce here to get something and take it back to Orlando. These sides have yet to meet in the MLS and will be a tough one to call in what I expect to be a close game.

Colorado Rapids Vs Seattle Sounders – 01.00am BST (23/5/22)

Colorado who are unbeaten at home this season come up against a Seattle team determined to get their season back on track and have back to back wins since playing their regular starters. This game could be the game of the slate and one that will make for interesting reading at the final whistle. Colorado will be needing Diego Rubio ( 11.5M ) to lead the line here as Gyasi Zardes (10.7M) is questionable for this game. Colorado will be without 2 starting defenders who picked up red cards during the midweek fixtures. Seattle also picked up a red card in their midweek away win at Houston. But still will have Nicolas Lodeiro ( 7M ) and Raul Ruidaz ( 6.9M ) who have been in great form in the last 2 games. Seattle haven’t won in Colorado since 2018 but could this be their best chance with Colorado needing to rotate due to suspensions.

LA Galaxy Vs Houston Dynamo – 01.00am BST ( 23/5/22 )

Both of these teams are not exactly spectacular, Galaxy haven’t won in their last 2. Houston only has 1 away win all season. 3 of the last 4 meetings between the two have been 1-1 draws. This will probably be the game on the slate that you would be forgiven for avoiding. However if you are looking for someone from this one, then Javier Hernandez ( 11.7M ) as ever stands out for the Galaxy. He is however on a 6 game goal drought. Houston will be looking to Sebastian Ferreira ( 6.4M ) who has 4 goals this season to try and get themselves something from this game. Neither team is free scoring so I expect this to be a close low scoring game.

Portland Timbers Vs Philadelphia Union – 03.00am BST (23/5/22)

This is the final game on the slate and an interesting one too. Both these teams have drawn 6 games this season which is the joint most amount in the MLS this season. Portland however can’t seem to get a run together, where as Philadelphia are on a slump after starting the season well but still sit top of the Eastern Conference, but have played a game more than NYCFC in second. Midweek was the first time this season Philadelphia did not find the back of the net and will be looking to put that right here. There main man Daniel Gazdag ( 8.7M ) will be needed here to try and get Philly back to winning ways. Portland cant seem to find the right person to lead there attack, however Nathan Fogaca ( 8.3M ) has started the last 2 games and grabbed a brace on his debut, which was at home. Portland seem to have a good record against Philadelphia having won 5 of the last 6 meetings between the two.

As this contest allows multi entries, I will likely be entering different line ups. Here’s an example of one of my line ups I will be entering using some of the players mentioned.

I hope this article has given you plenty of food for thought – especially for those of you that know very little about MLS, but are playing in the MLS Main Event contest.

MLS Main Event cash contests  start Saturday at 20.30pm BST, so be sure to enter your lineups early to avoid missing out.
