FANTEAM DAILY FANTASY FORMULA ONE – SPANISH GP PREVIEW AND TEAM REVEAL

FORMULA ONE SPANISH GRAND PRIX

The Spanish GP starts this Saturday and with it the FanTeam Full Weekend contests. Ferrari and Red Bull continue to dominate the grid with Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen fighting it out as this year’s title contenders. Having said that, this week’s return to Spain could be the perfect opportunity for the rest of the pack to get closer as the Formula One season heats up for next week’s highly anticipated Monaco Grand Prix.

This weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix will be the 32nd to be held. From those 32, only 3 have not been won from the front row of the grid. It seems therefore that Saturday’s qualifying session will be crucial in achieving Sunday success.

Here at FanTeam, we have you covered for this week’s Spanish Grand Prix. This weeks’ contest will cover qualifying and the race. There is no sprint race at this Grand Prix, but we will discuss the sprint format and how this impacts scoring once we get to the races where this will feature.

This weeks’ contest features two buy-ins, €2/£1.68 and €12/£10.08. The main contest features a prize pool of €600/£1,500.

Remember this week’s contest starts on May 21st at  15.00pm BST So be sure to enter early to avoid missing out.

RULES

The contest will cover this weekend’s grand prix only. You must select 6 drivers to fill out your team, working within a budget of 115.0m. You will also be required to select a captain and vice-captain in the process. Your captain will score x2 points, your vice-captain will score x1.5 points. Your captaincy selections do not count towards your budget figure, which should make your captaincy choices a little easier. This allows you to tailor your captaincy choices to which drivers you think will perform well at this weeks’ track.

No bench required, so the selection headache is removed for you here!

You can multi-enter this contest, with a maximum of 30 teams allowed per user.

Standard fantasy scoring will apply (the scoring can be accessed within the contest itself), and qualification and race scoring will apply to this contest. If two teams are tied in this contest once the Chequered flag is waved, the team with the most remaining funds will win.

BUILDING YOUR TEAM

For anyone new to the single race Formula 1 weekend contests on FanTeam, you will notice a bit of a difference in line-up construction when compared with the full season contest. In the full season contest, you can select any 6 drivers within budget, along with a constructor. The weekend contests however are a little different. Here’s how…

Within your team of 6, there are 4 tiers that you will be selecting drivers from. Tier 1 requires you to select 1 driver Tier 2 and tier 3 requires you to select 2 drivers from each tier. Tier 4 requires you to select only 1 driver.

In an ideal world, you could select the top priced driver from each tier. The catch is, your budget won’t allow you to do this! You will have to select a more balanced line up if you are selecting a top Tier 1 and Tier 2 driver for example. The Drivers Tiers are set out as follows:

TIER 1

Max Verstappen (32.0M) and Charles Leclerc (31.5M)

TIER 2

Carlos Sainz (28.0M), Sergio Perez (27.5M), George Russell (23.5M), Lewis Hamilton (23.3M), Lando Norris (21.0M) and Valtteri Bottas (19.5M)

TIER 3

Esteban Ocon (16.0M), Fernando Alonso (15.5M), Daniel Ricciardo (14.9M), Kevin Magnussen (13.8M), Pierre Gasly (12.4M), Yuki Tsunoda (10.2M) and Sebastian Vettel (8.5M)

TIER 4

Lance Stroll (7.5M) Alex Albon (6.8M), Guanyu Zhou (6.3M), Mick Schumacher (5.8M) and Nicholas Latifi (3.5M)

LINEUP SELECTIONS

TIER 1

MAX VERSTAPPEN

Back to back victories have given the Dutchman and 2021 world champion some much needed momentum as he looks to claw back the points advantage Leclerc currently has on him. Verstappen has fond memories around here having won his first ever grand prix race here in 2016 as a teenager, becoming Formula One’s youngest ever race winner in the process. This is a case of riding the momentum with Verstappen who clearly has it after those back to back wins.

TIER 2

CARLOS SAINZ

Sainz returned to the podium last time out at the Miami Grand Prix and there’s reason for the Spaniard to be optimistic of another good result as he heads to his home race this weekend. Sainz has never failed to pick up points at the Spanish Grand Prix and has the longest active points streak on this circuit out of any current driver. With potential Ferrari updates on a already fast car I like Sainz as an option here

LEWIS HAMILTON

Hamilton and Mercedes have dominated this track since 2017 and after an impressive showing in practice the Silver team might just be back. The silver arrows have brought a number of important upgrades with them to the Barcelona circuit and it has got Hamilton firing warning shots at the Ferrari and Red Bull. Both Mercedes drivers come second and third in FP2 on Friday with Hamilton’s team mate Russell just one tenth of a second shy of Charles Leclerc. I prefer Hamilton here just because of his pedigree and knowledge around here and like his chances for a podium finish.

TIER 3

SEBASTIAN VETTEL

Vettel will be driving a different car this weekend and will be in a confident mood as the Aston Martin has a new upgrade powered by a Mercedes engine. I needed to save some budget by going very top heavy and Vettel provided the perfect opportunity for that, an experienced driver with new upgrades that could potentially find the points again this week.

ESTEBEN OCON

A driver who is maturing in his car. Ocon has come on leaps and bounds this year and has found the points in every single race outside of Italy. I still enjoy watching him and Alonso duel earlier in the year. I favour Ocon over his team mate here with an impressive P9 finish in Friday’s practice, his clearly the driver to get from the middle of the pack.

TIER 4

ALEXANDER ALBON

I’m going to keep this short and sweet here. My pick is Alex Albon because he is the driver getting the most out of all the bad cars down here. He has come on leaps and bounds already this year in a terrible car and I would not be surprised to see a top team snap him up in the near future. He found the points last time and if things go his way again there’s no reason he can not again.

TEAM REVEAL

Although I will be entering multi entries in the Formula one full weekend cash games, this is one of my lineups on FanTeam.

As you can see, the lineup is built around my driver selections above.
