FANTEAM DAILY FANTASY GOLF – PGA CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 4

GOLF’S NEW GENERATION TAKE THE ADVANTAGE IN A DIFFICULT SCORING DAY

Round 3 proved to be a difficult scoring day in some difficult conditions. Mito Pereira now has his first PGA Tour lead! Before round 3 yesterday Mito had never held a PGA Tour event lead, the question now is can the young South American hold it? Pereira now has a 3 stroke advantage on nearest competitors Matt Fitzpatrick and Will Zalatoris as golf’s new generation look for their first major wins.

If they think getting over the line will be easy then they are in for a rude awakening with a tightly packed leaderboard behind including Cameron Young, Abraham Ancer and Seamus Power. Then you add former major winners Justin Thomas, Stewart Cink, Bubba Watson, Gary Woodland and Rory McIlroy then the new generation still have it all to do on Championship Sunday.

FanTeam have created a Day 2 PGA Championship contest for us to enjoy. €5 buy-in with €1,000  prize pool. Contests start 22nd May, 13.00pm BST 14.00pm CET

WEATHER

Championship Sunday should be more settled in regards to weather compared to yesterday. There is a small chance of rain around 12% but it’s mainly sunshine predicted. Temperatures will be around 68F with some small wind gusts between 10-15mph.

No real advantage with the weather today as it looks very consistent throughout the day. Obviously the course will be softer for the earlier starters as it will dry out through the day so I might factor that into building lineups slightly.

ROUND 3 STATS

STROKES GAINED ON APPROACH

Approach is the most important attribute this week. The degree of difficulty for approach shots here will be incredibly high due to the uneven lies, leveled off greens, and surrounding short grass. Many approach shots will be with long irons and ranging from 150-200 yards out so great iron play is key.

  1. Webb Simpson
  2. Max Homa
  3. Brendan Steele
  4. Sebastian Munoz
  5. Jordan Spieth

STROKES GAINED OFF THE TEE (DRIVING DISTANCE)

This course is made for bombers, the long hitters will have a sugnifficant advantage as Rory proved on day one as he bullied it from the tee. Why this is not the most important stat it’s worth taking a look at after seeing what Rory did Thursday.

  1. Cameron Young
  2. Kieth Mitchell
  3. Rory McIlroy
  4. Gary Woodland
  5. Seamus Power

STROKES GAINED PUTTING

Ben Crenshaw said this in regards to Southern Hills, “You could putt these greens your entire life and not figure them out.”With the huge banks and contours on these greens I will be weighting putting into my model a little more this week, especially in the 5-10ft range.

  1. Lucas Herbert
  2. Cameron Young
  3. Denny McCarthy
  4. Mito Pereira
  5. Matt Fitzpatrick

BOUNCE BACK SCORE

Something new for this week is bounce back scoring. This stat is determined by using a golfers tee to green numbers and their putting expectation. In doing this we can determine golfers who should bounce back if they continue to hit their irons well and return to the putting baseline. Here’s the top 5 from round 3.

  1. Webb Simpson
  2. Brendan Steele
  3. Rickie Fowler
  4. Max Homa
  5. Sebastian Munoz
