Golf’s second major is in the books and what an exciting week it was. Plenty of big names missed the cut at Southern Hills as the course and weather played havoc for the tour golfers. The biggest name in world golf (Tiger Woods) returned for the first time since the Masters and yet again did the unthinkable and made the cut, he did later withdraw with fatigue and one does wonder how many more times we will get to watch the big cat tee it up. But it was Justin Thomas week as he claimed his second major title with a playoff win against Will Zalatoris

The FanTeam season-long golf contest is really heating up! We are just 3 weeks away from golf’s third major, the US Open and there are just 300 points separating 1st from 100th in the rankings.

In this article today I will be bringing you the upcoming schedule as well as some of my favorite golfers to target.

This week the PGA tour rolls onto the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth Texas. A long-standing tour event that will be played for the 77th time this year. Only the 4 majors have been tour events longer than this championship.

Head over to the FanTeam blog and check out the Charles Schwab Challenge preview article.

I can’t state enough how important this tool is in planning out your future weeks for the season-long golf contest.

Current updates include a full Charles Schwab field, 49 players confirmed for the Memorial, 11 players confirmed for the RBC Canadian Open, and over 50 confirmed in the US Open. The tracker also shows you if certain golfers played the events in 2020/2021.

Golf fields are hard to predict. Thankfully, we have had some information to work on within our planning these recent weeks. The good thing for our season-long teams now is we have even more data and fields to work with as we get to the mid-stage of the season-long competition.

At least 5 golfers in this field went deep into last week’s PGA championship so I think it’s safe to say we will get a withdrawal or 2.  I do not advocate making any changes until as late as possible.

3 top 50 world golfers confirmed so far for the Charles Schwab Challenge and the Memorial – Colin Morikawa, Abraham Ancer, and Sungjae IM.

4 golfers confirmed so far for the Memorial and US Open – Cameron Smith, Rory McIlroy, Corey Conners, and Mackenzie Hughes

No golfers are confirmed for all 4 events back to back at this stage.

I will almost certainly be transferring in some of those players mentioned above this week as we know what their schedule is. I would also want to transfer in some guys that have the potential to win these upcoming events if I could.

Charles Schwab Challenge – Abraham Ancer (11.2M)

The young Mexican made a good run at it at last week’s PGA Championship and seems to have gotten over those early-season injury issues he had. Ancer has made 3 straight cuts and has a top 10 finish in that time. Ancer also loves this golf course with 4 cuts made every time he has played and 2 top 20 finishes. I was extremely impressed with what I saw from Ancer at the PGA Championship, especially with the irons and he will need that again this week to compete. Not only can Ancer compete here he will be available the following week at the Memorial so I like bringing in him here.

Memorial Championship – Corey Conners (10.5M)

Bringing Conners in here will be a good strategy as it will give you 3 straight weeks to use him. Yes, he missed the cut last week at the PGA Championship but before that, he had made 6 straight cuts with an impressive 6th place finish at the Master’s Championship. Conners has gained strokes everywhere in that time just losing around the green which is not that all-important around this golf course anyway. He has great course history here having made the cut in 3 attempts and has 2 top 25 finishes in that time so I liked him as an option this week.

RBC Canadian Open – Rory McIlroy (12.8M)

Rory just has to play 4 days of golf! Bringing Rory in here will get you access to him for 3 straight weeks after but can he pull it together for 4 straight days that’s the question? It really is becoming a worry but there is reason to be optimistic that he can 1 being is he is the reigning champion of this event and secondly Rory is gaining strokes everywhere except the putter. As golf fans and stat watchers we know that can flick on and off like a light switch and if anyone can turn it back on it’s Rory. He will win one week soon and I think it’s here so I’m back on the Rory train again.

US Open

I think if you can get the players in above I would not be making any changes here unless I had to as I believe Rory could most certainly win golf’s third major. As long as you have 6 playing any week roll the transfer. You will need it with the John Deere Classic and Barbasol Championship coming up as those fields look to be weak at present. If I were to pick an early winner here, it would be Jordan Spieth (11.6M) as he has the temperament and game tee to green to win this competition for a second time.

As of right now, I would say a lot of people have already wildcarded at the Corales Championship. For those who have not, I wouldn’t advise using it along this stretch personally. Instead, I would save it for the John Deere or Barbasol championships down the line with similar weaker fields to the Corales.

If you need that hard reset, though, I would advise using it this week or at the Memorial. As I have mentioned above, these fields are very strong at present so you could potentially gain one up on the field by going early here. If you do wildcard here I’d advise planning with the tracker to make sure you can field 6 all the way to the US Open.

Golfers to target in a wildcard, are Rory McIlroy, Abraham Ancer, Cameron Smith, Corey Conners, Scottie Scheffler, Maverick McNealy, Lucas Glover, and Mackenzie Hughes. All golfers mentioned here play multiple events in and around this time, again using the tracker to keep up to date with golf fields.

Good luck to you all and I hope you are enjoying the FanTeam Golf Season-long contest as much as me. Please feel free to message me on Twitter @JackHumphreyKM if you have any questions – all support queries should go to @FanTeamOfficial.
