MLS game week 15 is here and game week 14 was again as unpredictable as ever. Rotation played a big part due to midweek games and teams who were looking to kick on stumbled with others showing what they have on their day. This week on FanTeam is an 11-game slate all being played in a short window, and I am here as ever to give my take on who you should play this week.

The Main Event contest runs through May 29th

This week’s Main Event contest has 2 buy-ins of €2 and €15 respectively. The €2 contest has a prize pool of €250 and the €15 has a prize pool of €750.

The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 108.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice-captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, if your captain does not play, your vice-captain will then score 2x points.

You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.

No bench is required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.

Standard FanTeam scoring applies to this contest.

With the rules covered, let’s take a look at some of my picks from each game, shall we?

Atlanta Utd Vs Columbus Crew – 00.00AM BST (29/5/22)

Both these sides would like to be doing better than they currently are this season, but are both not far off being in the playoff hunt with the Eastern Conference being so tight at this stage. Atlanta came into this game with better form, being undefeated in their last 3, which with all the injuries they have is looking better for them. Josef Martinez (10.8M) is questionable for this weekend but seems to not be far away from a well-needed return. In his absence, Thiago Almada (10.2M) and Ronaldo Cisneros (9.9M) have been the main guys for this Atlanta team and will be needed here to take all 3 points. The Crew is 3 without a win going into this one and could provide some good value here for your teams this week. Derrick Etienne (7.1M) was left out against LAFC but I see him being brought back in for this one as they did miss him going forward. Pedro Santos (6.4M) is an ever-present for the Crew and if you fancy them to get a result here could get you some solid points. Columbus has won 3 of their last 4 visits to Atlanta so will be fancying themselves in this one.

New York Red Bulls vs DC United – 00.00AM BST (29/5/22)

Where do I start with the Red Bulls? No wins in 3, but 1 defeat in 7. They have slipped to 5th in the Eastern Conference and from a DFS point of view they only really have 1 player you can rely on. Lewis Morgan (12.5M) is proving the best option if you want a red bulls player on your team, however, I do fancy them to do well defensively this week so Aaron Long (9.3M) could be an option in defense. DC isn’t great and can’t seem to get any sort of run together, away from home they have played 4, won 1 drew 1 lost 2. So it is not looking great for them here. Taxiarchis Fountas (6.6M) could be a great option for your team at this price however, he seems to have established himself as the key man to this DC team and I wouldn’t bet against him doing something here. Games between the 2 usually are tight affairs and I see this being no different with Red Bulls have the advantage playing at home.

Toronto FC Vs Chicago Fire – 00.00AM BST  (29/5/22)

Rubbish vs Rubbish in this one which from a DFS point of view could be a match that makes or breaks your team if you’re brave enough to go with players from this one. Toronto has lost 5 of their last 6 games with the last game against DC being the draw that stopped the rut. They will be pleased that Jonathan Osorio (9.1M) is back from injury and has been a big loss to the team. Jesus Jimenez (9.7M) still has 7 goals in this team and is always a threat, and will be licking his lips to come up against a Chicago team who seem to have forgotten how to defend. Chicago is 9 games without a win and will be hoping to add to Toronto’s misery if they are to change their fortunes here. The only player worth considering for me is Shaqiri (9.3M) however I do feel there is better value on this slate. Chicago hasn’t beaten Toronto in the MLS since 2015, 13 games stretch so history suggests a positive result here for Toronto.

CF Montreal Vs Cincinnati – 00.30AM BST (29/5/22)

A couple of game weeks ago I was here bigging up Montreal and excited to see them doing well as it was not expected, since then they have lost their last 2 games. This has seen them slip back to 4th in the Eastern Conference. One player that you can safely put into your teams every week is Djordje Mihailovic (13.1M) again got himself on the scoresheet last week, and is Montreal’s top scorer with 7 so far this year. Cincinnati had won 3 on the bounce before coming up against New England last week and fell to a late goal which cost them the draw. They will come into this game also having never lost in Montreal since joining the MLS. My 2 go-to players for Cincinnati Brandon Vazquez (7.4M) and Luciano Acosta (7M) always have a goal or assist in them and again are good value here for the more in-form team.

New England Revolution Vs Philadelphia Union – 00.30AM BST (29/5/22)

Probably the game of the slate and the weekend in the MLS. New England seems to finally be finding some form and is unbeaten in their last 4 games and this test will show everyone where this team is. Philadelphia ended a run of 5 straight draws by getting a good win away at Portland last time out and will be hoping to stay undefeated here too. Carles Gil (10.8M) will no doubt be a popular choice this weekend as he is usually reliable at getting some solid points on the board. Adam Buksa (10.9M) is in blistering form with 7 goals in his last 6 games. If you are an avid reader of my article you can probably already guess my Philly player to have this week. Daniel Gazdag (7.8M) 7 goals and 2 assists, what else do I need to say. He is in Philadelphia and will be needed here to push the team to get a result here. I expect a close game and would expect both teams to score also.

Orlando City Vs Fc Dallas – 00.30AM BST (29/5/22)

Orlando is on a bit of a mini-run of being undefeated in their last 2 and sits quietly in 3rd in the Eastern Conference. They did go to extra time during the week in the US cup and played a mix of first 11 and reserves so a possible rotation threat here. Orlando is also becoming a bit unreliable in a DFS sense with a host of players who perform well one week and then gets you nothing the next. A risky play for me this week but could pay off is Pedro Gallese (8.4M) with Dallas being awful away from home. Speaking of Dallas a bit like Montreal, I was bigging them up when they beat the Galaxy away from home but then have lost their last 2 games. As already mentioned they are terrible away from home despite their impressive win in LA. However they do have the league’s top goalscorer in their ranks, Jesus Ferreira (8.5M) has 9 goals but hasn’t found the net in the last 2 games. Games between the two are usually low-scoring games, not sure that will be the case here but I do expect a close game.

Inter Miami Vs Portland Timbers – 01.00AM BST (29/5/22)

I’ll say this quietly, Inter Miami are 3 games unbeaten and has won their last 4 home games, however, they are still 10th in the Eastern Conference. They welcome a Portland side who have been hit by injuries and have lost their last 2 games. Inter will be hoping to keep their run going here. Leonardo Campana (9.6M) is still keeping Gonzalo Higuain (9.3M) out of the team but hasn’t found the back of the net in a couple of games so don’t be surprised if Campana starts here but Higuain comes on. Another risky player here from me could be Deandre Yedlin (7.2M) with Portland suffering from injuries and Miami being solid at home could be a cheap defensive option. Portland has only won once in 7 away games this season and will need some of their injured players back if they are to get something here. Bill Tuiloma (6.4M) has 4 goals from defense and isn’t one of the injured players so could be a cheap player here too.

Minnesota Vs New York City – 01.00AM BST (29/5/22)

New York is the in-form team in the MLS and a force to be reckoned with. However away from New York, they aren’t the force they would like despite a solid win away to DC last weekend. Minnesota is hit and miss, they seem to beat the weaker sides at home but lose to the better sides. However a good win away at Dallas last time out could see them come into this game high on confidence. New York will have Valentin Castellanos (10.7M) back from suspension and he will be looking to impress here as he is being touted for a move to the Premier League. New York has kept 5 clean sheets in a row and Sean Johnson (8.4M) will want to be making it 6. The main man for Minnesota is Robin Lod (9.8M) if you think he is the man to end New York’s clean sheet run then get him on your team. These sides have met only twice in Minnesota and New York is yet to get a win here.

Colorado Rapids Vs Nashville – 02.00AM BST (29/5/22)

Colorado is on a 7-game unbeaten run at home winning 5 and drawing 2. Nashville who started the season just playing away games is no stranger to being on the road but will need to be on top form to get something here. Diego Rubio (9.8M) has 6 goals and 3 assists and has been in decent form since his red card 3 games ago. With Colorado being so good at home, I’d be looking at Keegan Rosenberry (7.2M) who could be a great addition to your defense this week. Nashville a bit like Cincinnati has 2 players that every week get a mention from me and this week is no different. Hany Mukhtar (7.1M) is a steal at this price despite the tough match-up. Charles Sapong (6.5M) has 4 goals and 3 assists and could be a cheaper option for your forward line this week. These two have yet to meet in the MLS and will be interesting to see if Nashville can break Colorado’s home record.

Sporting Kansas City Vs Vancouver Whitecaps – 02.00AM BST (29/5/22)

This game is like the Toronto Chicago game, both poor sides up against each other but players from here could make or break your team. Both teams have improved recently, Sporting Kansas are unbeaten in their last 2 since they got smashed 7-2 at portland. Vancouver has lost 1 of their last 4 but has lost their last 7 away games. I’m expecting goals here so defenders are not my focus. Sporting should welcome back Daniel Salloi (11.8M) back from suspension who will be looking to add to his 4 goals already this season. Johnny Russell (11.6M) has hit a bit of form and will also be looking to add to his goal tally here. Vancouver will welcome back Lucas Cavallini (6.7M) from suspension and will be looking to lead Vancouver to a positive result here. Sporting hasn’t lost at home to Vancouver in their last 5 meetings and will be hoping to make this 6.

Real Salt Lake Vs Houston Dynamo – 02.30AM BST (29/5/22)

Last game on the FanTeam slate. Real Salt Lake is slowly getting themselves back in form, they have won their last 2 games with impressive wins against Montreal and Austin. They welcome Houston who can’t seem to get a run together but does have a surprise in them. Real Salt Lake is unbeaten in their last 5 at home, winning 4 of those. Zac MacMath (7.9M) could be an option in goal this week, he has made 52 saves in 13 games and is the team’s leading points scorer in season-long FanTeam. Houston will be looking towards Sebastian Ferreira (7.6M) who has 3 goals in his last 5 games as well as 2 assists last time out away to the Galaxy. Houston has not beaten Real Salt Lake in their last 9 meetings and will be hoping to cause an upset here.

As this contest allows multi entries, I will likely be entering different lineups. Here’s an example of one of my lineups I will be entering using some of the players mentioned.
