The MLS is back after a break due to international, and I’m here with my take on the game week 17s slate. There were some games during the international break but this week everyone is back playing. 8 Games on the slate for the FanTeam contest this week and here are my picks for each of these games.

The Main Event contest runs through June 19th

This week’s Main Event contest has 2 buy-ins of €2 and €15 respectively. The €2 contest has a prize pool of €250 and the €15 has a prize pool of €650.

The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 108.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice-captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, if your captain does not play, your vice-captain will then score 2x points.

You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.

No bench is required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.

Standard FanTeam scoring applies to this contest.

With the rules covered, let’s take a look at some of my picks from each game, shall we?

New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC – 12am BST – The red bulls were one of the teams to play during the break and they will wish they hadn’t. They fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Charlotte. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you will know I don’t have many good things to say about the red bulls from a DFS point of view and I’m still sticking with this. Lewis Morgan (14.1M) is the most expensive player on the slate, which he is probably the best option to have in your team from the red bulls, he did grab a hat trick the last time these 2 met, however, there is a better value elsewhere. Before the break, Toronto was starting to get back to being half decent and are 2 unbeaten. Jesus Jimenez (6.9M) grabbed a goal in the reverse fixture and has 7 goals this season. Toronto will be hoping he has his scoring boots on here to get a result. The red bulls are unbeaten in their last 6 meetings with Toronto and will be wanting to get back on track here.

CF Montreal Vs Austin FC – 12.30am BST – 3rd in the Eastern conference vs 4th in the Western Conference. Both will be hoping the break has done them some good. Montreal does tend to score goals but has a tendency to concede also. Austin in recent games has been the same. However, I do expect this to be a close game. One of my favorite players in the MLS this season Djordje Mihailovic (12.6M) has 7 goals and 3 assists this season and is the key man in this Montreal team. Romell Quioto (11.6M) with 5 goals and 2 assists is usually the man to lead the line but rarely sees out the 90 minutes. For Austin Sebastian Driussi (9.1M) is the team’s leading scorer with 8 goals, he also has 3 assists and will be needed here along with Diego Fagundez (8.4M) who has 3 goals and 7 assists to get some from this game.

Columbus Crew Vs Charlotte – 12.30am BST – Columbus comes into this game sitting 10th in the Eastern conference but does a game or 2 in hand over most of the conference. Charlotte was one of the teams to have a game during the international break and took advantage of that grabbing 3 points. They also dismissed their coach during the break and it seems to have paid off so far. Charlotte has yet to win away from home and will be a tough ask here too. Eloy Room (9.3M) could be a good option for a goalkeeper this week if you feel charlotte will continue to struggle away from home. Derrick Etienne (11.9M) will need to be on form to spark Columbus back into winning ways at home. Charlotte will be waiting to see what condition Karol Swiderski (6M) returns from international duty but I would expect him to be involved. Ben Bender (5.8M) scored in the 2-0 win over the red bulls and is the midfield maestro for this team. Could be a cheap option to have to fit others around him. I expect a close game here too but feel Columbus will get a result.

Orlando City Vs Houston Dynamo – 12.30am BST – Orlando played midweek away to New England and got a solid result. They will be looking to take that performance into this week. Pedro Gallese (8.8M) could again be a good option to have in goal this week. Houston does tend to struggle away from home so something to look at. Ruan (8.4M) wasn’t used during the week so expect him to start here and be a defender worth getting into those teams. Houston will be looking to bounce back from their defeat before the break, Sebastian Ferreira (7.5M) grabbed himself a goal in their last away win at the Galaxy and he will need to be on fire here to get something for Houston. Houston will also be hoping Darwin Quintero (6.9M) is available here. Houston hasn’t lost to Orlando in their last 4 games but the two haven’t met since 2019.

Philadelphia Union Vs Cincinnati – 12.30am BST – Philadelphia sits 2nd in the Eastern Conference and is a force to be reckoned with when playing at home. They have yet to be defeated at home and Cincinnati has their work cut out here. Daniel Gazdag (12.1M) will be on a high after scoring in the international games against England and is the main man for Philly. I wouldn’t put you off trying to stack Philly players here but getting the right blend will be the trick here. Jakob Glasses (8.9M) could prove a good option to have in your defense this week. Cincinnati, however, does know how to find the back of the net, Brandon Vazquez (6.5M) has 7 goals and 5 assists whilst his partner in crime Luciano Acosta (6.1M) has 5 goals and 2 assists. If you think this game can produce goals then 2 cheap options there to fit some others in around them. Philadelphia has yet to lose to Cincinnati in the MLS which is a run of 6 games.

Chicago Fire Vs DC United – 1am BST – Both of these sides before the international break were probably the two worst teams in the MLS based on form. Chicago hasn’t won in 9 games, and DC hasn’t won in 4. Chicago won the reverse fixture earlier in the season 2-0 when they were solid at the back. They will be looking to get back to winning ways here. Shaqiri (10.6M) has been the only player worth sticking with for Chicago and you would be silly to not go back there again this week. DC will need Taxiarchis Fountas (8.1M) back fit to pile the misery on Chicago and take something from this game. Chicago has not lost at home to DC United since 2015 which is a 7 game stretch in that time.

FC Dallas Vs Vancouver Whitecaps – 2am BST – Dallas got a much-needed win before the break, to end a 2-game losing streak which included an away defeat to Vancouver. I expect Dallas to want to get revenge here for that defeat. Paul Arriola (13.2M) has 6 goals in 5 games and is in great form. This has helped Dallas as Jesus Ferreira (13.7M) hasn’t scored in his last 3 but did grab 4 goals for the USA in the international break. Vancouver had 2 games in the international break, with their last game being a 4-0 thumping by Seattle. They probably hoped they were then facing Dallas away from home this week. Vancouver away from home has played 8, lost 7, and only won once. They were without Lucas Cavallini (5.9M) during the break as he was away with Canada and will be hoping he can try to turn there away from around here. Vancouver is 5 games unbeaten against Dallas however so will be hoping to continue this run here.

Real Salt Lake Vs San Jose Earthquakes – 2.30am BST – Both these sides had a game during the international break but neither could get the 3 points in their games. Real Salt Lake has not lost at home this season, and San Jose has not won away from home this season. So math suggests a home win. Zac MacMath (9.4M) could be another great shout for a goalkeeper this week despite not keeping many clean sheets, does tend to make quite a few saves. Justin Meram (11.8M) has 4 assists and 2 goals from midfield and could be a play here this week. For San Jose, Jeremy Ebobisse (8M) has 9 goals and 2 assists and despite San Jose not being great away from home, they do know how to score goals, the problem is they concede a lot more. Cristian Espinoza (7.8M) is the midfield maestro in this team and his 5 assists and 4 goals show he is an important part of this team. Games between the two usually produce goals, 26 scored in the last 5 games between the two. Could this be the game of the slate?

As this contest allows multi entries, I will likely be entering different lineups. Here’s an example of one of my lineups I will be entering using some of the players mentioned.
