Fanteam’s prestigious UEFA Champions League Knockout Stage Tournament is now open!
Here at Fanteam HQ, we are delighted to announce the opening of our 2023 UEFA Champions League Knockout game, which boasts a minimum guaranteed prize pool of £25,000 (€28,750) – and a £5,000 (minimum) guaranteed prize to the 1st place winner!
Managers in our UEFA Champions League Knockout game have the chance to choose a star-studded line-up from the worlds’ most elite talent – so, if you’ve ever wanted to own the likes of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi in your fantasy side – now’s your chance!
The contest will be played over 7 gameweeks – starting with Gameweek 7 (Matchday 1) at 20:00GMT on the 14th of February 2023 — ending with the Champions League Final (Gameweek 13/Matchday 7) on Saturday the 10th of June, 2023.
The prize pool for this tournament is set with a minimum guarantee, but can grow above and beyond that, as it’s a progressive prize pool – this means, once the minimum guarantee of £25,000 has been met, it will continue to rise with each new entry until the tournament starts on Feb 14th.
Furthermore, our player prices have been diligently set to ensure more players are viable for team selection. This should all lead to one of the most exciting and prestigious fantasy football events we’ve ever offered on the Scout Gaming Group Network.
Below you will find all the information you need to know about our 2023 UEFA Champions League Knockout game Format, Game Rules, Scoring, Gameweek Schedule and Prize Pool details.

SCORING
Like with the Game Rules above, the scoring on Fanteam has slight differences to other fantasy football games you might have played on other platforms, but the image below gives a clear guide to our UEFA Champions League fantasy football tournament scoring system.
Please note, if you participated in any of our 2022/23 Premier League or World Cup season games, the Scoring Rules are identical.
A full breakdown of the scoring system for our UEFA Champions League fantasy football tournament is provided below in the info-graphic.
Whilst all of the Scoring Rules have been listed above in the info-graphic, there are a few scoring attributes and rules we want to draw your attention to:
Full Match Bonus: If an attacking player (Forward or Midfielder) stays on the pitch for the entire game (90 mins & including injury time) they will pick up an additional point. This means players that don’t get substituted are worth consideration, and that could potentially influence your captaincy decision too.
Goalkeeper Save Points: Goalkeepers will earn 0.5 points for every save they make. Therefore, a goalkeeper on a team that allows the opposition a lot of low quality shots, can really rack up the points – even if they don’t keep a clean-sheet.
Impact Points: If the team wins the period a player is on the pitch, the player will be awarded 0.3 points. However, if they lose the period (example: subbed off whilst losing 1-0) they’re on the pitch, they will be deducted 0.3 points.
Shots on Target: Midfielders and Strikers will be awarded 0.4 points for each Shot on Target, whilst Defenders will earn 0.6. If your Goalkeeper somehow manages a Shot on Target then he will get 1 point. This scoring rule certainly gives fantasy bosses something to think about when selecting their attacking assets.
What counts as a shot on target?
A player is deemed to have a Shot on Target when making a clear attempt to score that:
- would have gone into the goal had the attempt not been saved by the goalkeeper, or.
- is stopped by a player who is the last-man with the goalkeeper having no chance of preventing the goal (last line of defence).
Shot on Target resulting in a direct goal will not be counted as SOT:
- a SOT (shot on target) that results in a FA (fantasy assist) will give a SOT for the assisting player.
- an attempt on goal that hits the post or crossbar is not deemed a Shot on Target. The frame of the goal is not considered a target.
HOW SAFETY NET WORKS
As you’re only required to pick a team of 11 players in this tournament, there are no substitutes or benches. However, our ‘Safety Net‘ feature is active – “but, what is a Safety Net?” we hear you shout…
Well, the ‘Safety Net‘ is when an automatic substitution is made for a player in your 11-man team that hasn’t been named in the starting lineup. If a player in your team isn’t in the starting 11 for their club at kick-off, they will automatically be substituted for the next priced player from the same position and club.
Example: if you own Lionel Messi [12m] and he’s starting the game on the bench, or is not in the squad, he will be replaced at kick-off by the next priced PSG midfielder – which is Neymar [11.5m]. If you already own Neymar, then the next priced PSG midfielder will be selected – and so on, until a valid replacement is found.
Please note, using the example above, if Lionel Messi comes in to game from the bench at any point, you still keep Neymar and his points as you started the match with him for the gameweek. The automatic substitution is made at kick-off and you’ll keep that player for the full game, so will score nothing from Lionel Messi for that match.
Our Safety Net feature is designed to make it much more likely you have 11 starting players and don’t get burnt with your player coming on in the 89-minute for a 1-point appearance. Of course, your chosen player could come on later in the game and score substantial points, but that’s the beauty of Safety Net – as it can and will work both ways, but is a feature designed to protect your teams each gameweek.
